In an interview with Screen Rant, Grillo reveals that the script for the final entry of the Purge franchise is ready. He also reveals that the finale will center around his character, Leo Barnes, and will be directed by DeMonaco. Read his full comments below:
The script is done. It basically centers around Leo Barnes, my character. It would be the last of the last of the last, it’s like the guy who keeps retiring. James DeMonaco is going to direct it, if it happens, and it’s a matter of money. It’s a matter of how big they want the movie to be, how much money they want to spend on the movie, considering they’ve done a lot in this franchise. But it’s a great script .
Initially, ‘The Forever Purge,’ i.e., the fifth franchise installment, was supposed to be the last film. However, two years later, the CEO of Blumhouse Productions revealed that a sixth installment was in development. However, updates since then have been hard to come by, putting the status of the finale in question.
In a discussion, DeMonaco revealed that Purge 6 will bring out the wildest version of America. The Forever Purge concluded with America descending into chaos and citizens pushing for the purge to extend indefinitely. Thus, the sequel is expected to explore the disastrous consequences of the ordeal.
Moreover, DeMonaco revealed that the country will be divided based on ideology, religion, and sexuality in the upcoming finale.
Among the cast members, only Grillo has been confirmed to be the protagonist so far.
The last time his character appeared in the franchise, he worked to save Senator Roan in The Purge: Election Year. Thus, finding out how his character is introduced in the grand finale will be exciting.

The films present a seemingly normal, crime-free America in the near future. However, the country is a dystopia which observes an annual event known as “the Purge”, in which all crime, including murder, is decriminalized for a 12-hour period.
The franchise began in 2013 with The Purge, directed by creator DeMonaco, who also directed two of the sequels and wrote the screenplays for all films in the series. A fifth installment, The Forever Purge, was released on July 2, 2021. A sixth movie is in the works.
