The Resident Evil 4 remake is a thrilling, action-packed game that requires strategy, precision, and firepower to survive. The game features a new type of collectible item called clockwork castellans, scattered across the game’s 16 chapters.
These clockwork castellans are destructible Salazar Wind-Up Dolls. While some of these dolls can be easily stumbled upon, finding all clockwork castellans is a challenging task, as some are hidden in tricky locations and can be difficult to locate.
There are 16 clockwork castellans in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Here is the list of all clockwork castellans with their location in each chapter:

Players must explore each chapter thoroughly and listen for the mechanical sound of clockwork castellans to find them in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Look for areas off the beaten path, check behind, and shoot objects to reveal hidden clockwork castellan.
Let’s dive into each chapter for a better understanding.
I. Chapter 1 clockwork castellan
In chapter 1, the first clockwork castellan can be found inside the first stone house you come across at the beginning of Lakeside Settlement.
Once inside, head towards the right side of the room from the window and look up at the ceiling. You should be able to locate the Clockwork Castellan perched on a broken plank of wood suspended above your head.
II. Chapter 2 clockwork castellan
In chapter 2, the second clockwork castellan can be located inside a small shack on the path leading to the Village Chief’s Manor.
To reach the shack, you must first pass through a door with a Hexagonal Emblem and continue towards your objective. Once you’ve walked up the stairs, look towards your left to spot the small structure. Inside, you’ll find a note containing information about clockwork castellans. The players can discover the Wind-Up Doll sitting on a hay bale in the corner of the room.
III. Chapter 3 clockwork castellan
In chapter 3, the third clockwork castellan can be found in the merchant’s dock-side compound. This compound can be accessed by traveling through the quarry.
Once you’ve reached the Quarry, drop down the ladder to go to the docks and proceed down the path to the right, past the locked drawer. Continue further until you reach the end of the dock. Through a small crack, you will spot the clockwork Castellan on top of the stacked boxes.
IV. Chapter 4 clockwork castellan
In chapter 4, to locate the fourth clockwork castellan, players must return to the Lakeside Settlement and unlock the Insignia Door located on the area’s north end using the Insignia Key obtained from the Village Chief’s Manor in Chapter 2.
Once the gate is opened, players must climb the ladder to reach the Forest Altar. Afterward, head towards the northern fence and search for the Wind-Up Doll on the ground.
V. Chapter 5 clockwork castellan
In chapter 5, the fifth Clockwork Castellan can be found in the attic of the Village Chief’s Manor. To reach the attic, you need to discover a collapsible ladder that leads to it.
You need to head upstairs to the bedroom of the Village Chief’s Manor and move a picture frame to reveal a lever. Pull the lever to reveal the collapsible ladder, then boost Ashley into the attic and climb up after she lowers the ladder for you.
Once you reach the attic, head to the southern end and destroy some boxes to find the fifth clockwork castellan.
VI. Chapter 6 clockwork castellan
In Chapter 6, you will fight through a valley to escape the village with Luis and Ashley. After clearing all the enemies, head towards the Checkpoint area, and you’ll see a large bonfire to your right after pushing through the gate.
However, before you approach the bonfire, clear the nearby shack to avoid surprises from lurking enemies. The sixth clockwork castellan can be found at the base of the bonfire.
VII. Chapter 7 clockwork castellan
To locate the seventh clockwork castellan in chapter 7, you must defeat Garrador in the castle’s dungeon and use the Dungeon Key to open the door next to Ashley.
Then, climb up the ladder to access the storage area that leads to the Treasury. Once there, look for shelves at the center of the room, and you’ll find the seventh clockwork castellan on top of them.
VIII. Chapter 8 clockwork castellan
In chapter 8, the eighth clockwork castellan can be found at the top of one of the towers in the Castle Battlements. As you traverse the area, avoiding boulders thrown by the enemy, head towards the right side of the tower and drop down. Then, continue moving right and climb the ladder on the opposite side.
Once you reach the top of the ladder, you’ll see some crates on your right. To find this Wind-Up Doll, you’ll need to wrap around the area to reach the other side of the crates.
IX. Chapter 9 clockwork castellan
In chapter 9, you’ll start in a room with a typewriter, and the ninth clockwork castellan is hidden under the staircase that leads down to the Courtyard.
To find it, you’ll need to navigate through the maze and head to the northwestern corner of the area.
Follow these directions starting from the staircase, facing the center of the area. First, go down the left path, then take a right at the end of the path. After that, take a left and wrap around the right side of the hedge directly in front of you. Then, take a final right to find the clockwork castellan hidden behind some junk near a First Aid Spray.
X. Chapter 10 clockwork castellan
In chapter 10, after passing through a long narrow hallway that leads under the Ballroom, you’ll come across the purple flames that indicate the presence of a Merchant’s shop.
Across the purple-flamed torch, you’ll see a metal grate. Upon approaching it, you’ll find the tenth clockwork castellan hanging upside down behind the metal bars.
XI. Chapter 11 clockwork castellan
In chapter 11, the eleventh clockwork castellan is located in the Stopover area, accessible after riding through the minecart. Upon arriving, eliminate the enemies guarding the ruined structure and search above the central entrance to discover the Wind-Up Doll.
XII. Chapter 12 clockwork castellan
In chapter 12, the twelfth clockwork castellan can be located on the ground floor of the Clock Tower. As you enter the Clock Tower, you will need to eliminate enemies on your path while making your way toward the northwestern end of the area. The clockwork castellan can be found on some boxes situated underneath the staircase.
XIII. Chapter 13 clockwork castellan
In chapter 13, after defeating the first enemy armed with an RPG, you’ll enter a cave path leading to an area with several freight containers and enemies. After defeating these enemies, approach the nearby treasure, where you will notice the heavy machinery to the right of the Elegant Crown Treasure, including a green forklift. The thirteenth clockwork castellan will be on the floor, between the heavy machinery.
XIV. Chapter 14 clockwork castellan
In chapter 14, as soon as you witness Saddler abducting Ashley, make your way through the doors to pursue them. Take the path to your right, and you’ll come across an area that overlooks the Campsite. Eliminate the enemy here and proceed to the small control room on your right-hand side. Inside the control room, you’ll spot the fourteenth clockwork castellan resting on the lockers.
XV. Chapter 15 clockwork castellan
In chapter 15, the fifteenth clockwork castellan can be found in a room located in the building after the cutscene where Mike, the helicopter pilot, meets his demise.
After the cutscene, head towards the objective and enter the nearby building. Once inside the building, defeat the Regenerador and enter the small room on the right side of the wheel mechanism. Inside the room, there is a vertical beam at the center. To locate the clockwork castellan, you need to look upward from the beam, and you’ll find it sitting on the perpendicular beam.
XVI. Chapter 16 clockwork castellan
In the final chapter, you can find the last clockwork castellan during the countdown sequence that starts after defeating Saddler. Quickly move through the opening area of the Underground Passage with Ashley and jump across the collapsing bridge. As you approach the door, an enemy will attack you before falling to the ground.
In this same room, you can find the final clockwork castellan. To find it, check the right-hand side of the room where the Wind-Up Doll is placed on some crates near a forklift.

Players who will find and destroy all 16 clockwork castellans will receive the Revolution Wind-Up achievement trophy and will unlock the Primal Knife.
