Aaron Paul Was Shocked to Hear about Walt & Jesse’s Saul Cameo Reveal

Walter White and Jesse Pinkman will appear in the final season of Better Call Saul, and fans can start freaking out now because according to Aaron Paul, the duo’s cameo will be quite thrilling.

Saul co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould both confirmed the news of Walt and Jesse’s cameos right after the first two episodes of Saul’s final season premiered.

The announcement is a big deal for Breaking Bad fans, given that no one knew much about 2019’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie until it debuted on their screens. This reveal was a surprising move, so much so that it even shocked Paul.

While talking to THR, the actor stated,

“Shocked! I was heading to the [final season] premiere party of Better Call Saul, and they go, ‘There’s a flag on the play. Just so you know, Vince and Peter let everyone know that you and Bryan are going to be in the final season.’ And I was like, ‘What?!’ So I didn’t see that coming. But to be honest, I’m happy to be able to finally talk about it and not be squirrelly. It’s nice to be able to be open about it.”

Paul couldn’t contain his excitement, adding that it’d be “odd” if Walt and Jesse didn’t make an appearance in the spinoff that stemmed from the huge success of Breaking Bad.

“So I’m excited. I think fans of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul might have been expecting it. They’ve been seeing the Breaking Bad family slowly appear within the walls of Better Call Saul, so I think it would be odd if Walt and Jesse didn’t make an appearance. So I’m excited that we did and how we did. I think people are going to be thrilled about it.”

Paul appeared as Jesse alongside Bryan Cranston’s Walt in all five seasons of AMC’s Breaking Bad as the drug dealer who is recruited by his former high school chemistry teacher to make crystal meth.

The way Better Call Saul connects to Breaking Bad goes back to Season 2 of the original series, where Bob Odenkirk first appeared as Saul Goodman, the attorney who advises Walt and Jesse in a drug deal.

The creators have also teased that the duo’s cameo in the spinoff won’t simply be for nostalgic reasons but will change how the audience views these characters and Breaking Bad.

The exact episode in which Walt and Jesse will appear in Better Call Saul Season 6 is still unknown. However, they are expected to tie in with the story somewhere near the finale, before which Saul would wrap up its other storylines.

Better Call Saul Season 6 drops Episode 3 on AMC on April 25.
