Techland Reveals Next-Gen Update for Dying Light on PlayStation 5

Dying Light 2 Stay Human has been out for a while now and was well received, but the very first installment in the franchise was a breath of fresh air in a sea of zombie titles. Poland-based studio Techland sold close to 20 million copies of the game. The game’s fast pace and parkour mechanics were a hit amongst players, but the studio initially wanted to run the game at 60fps. They capped it at 30 fps for smoother performance.

Techland has now announced that they will be changing Dying Light for PS5 players. The next-gen patch, free to current owners of the game, promises to bring a host of improvements. PS4 Pro owners are not going to be left hanging, as they too will get upgrades to Dying Light, but their upgrades will not be as extensive as those on the PS5.

On the PlayStation 5, there will be three new video modes: Performance which will be 60fps in full HD; Balanced mode, which will target 60fps in QHD; and Quality mode, which will be 30fps but in full native 4K. The Balanced mode seems to be a neat compromise between the two as it will display in 1440p and target 60fps for smooth gaming.

PlayStation 4 Pro players, the upgrade will improve the 30fps cap and introduce a “new network utilizing the EOS situation.” In the announcement, the developers told the players to “try out the new video modes and enjoy the increased view distance while parkouring through Harran!”

Techland has said that an Xbox upgrade is “coming soon,” so Microsoft console owners should not have to wait long to wait for the game to hit 60fps. A patch is coming for Dying Light 2 Stay Human as well, as has been stated in a follow-up Tweet.

About Dying Light 2 Stay Human

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is a sequel to Techland’s 2015 open-world, zombie parkour action-adventure title Dying Light.

The game puts you in the shoes of Aiden Caldwell and is set 20 years after the first game’s events. You will be based in the City, located in Europe, and have free reign of the map and how you wish to traverse the area. Parkour will be your most used form of transport in the game, and the crafting system is also making a return.

There is also a decision system where your choices through the story affect the world around you. This could lead to more opportunities to earn resources, unlock shortcuts, and, most importantly, make the lives of those in the City more easy or difficult.
