Vikings are often characterized by a light shield in one hand. If you are playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as Eivor, chances are you wield one as well, but which one is the best?
In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you play as Eivor as you tear through Europe searching for a new home. The thing with AC Valhalla is that long gone are the days when you only needed to be a silent assassin. The Eivor of Valhalla can do pretty much anything you want him to do. Among other things, there are a variety of weapons at your disposal, particularly the shields.
I quite enjoy dual wielding an axe and a shield with Eivor as it gives me high versatility to quickly switch between offense and defense. As is the case with many RPGs there’s just so many shields to choose from! I’ve compiled this list of the top shields in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as the one with the best stats is not always the top one. Let me explain why.
1. What’s The Best Light Shield in AC Valhalla?
The Gorgon Shield is the best light shield in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with the top base stats and boy is it light! Clocking in at just 9 weight points is sure to suit your Raven playstyle.

The Gorgon Shield is not that easy to obtain and it can not be found in the wild. You need to collect all of the 52 Roman Artifacts and deliver them to Octavian in Valhalla. I particularly like playing with it as it does not hinder my speed but also does not compromise on defenses.
2. The Best Free Heavy Shield in AC Valhalla
Plank and Buckler Shield is the best heavy shield of Assassin’s Creed that is not part of any microtransaction once you fully max it to the highest level.

A superior heavy shield, the Plank and Buckler shield may not have the best base stats but when you fully upgrade, it is a pure beast! Combine this with its perk to increase your heavy damage when parrying and you’re golden.
To get the Plank and Buckler Shield, you need to find an underground tunnel just above a camp in East Anglia. You will find it in the Eastern part which is known as Sutton Hoo.
3. What’s The Best Paid Heavy Shield in AC Valhalla?
Hircocervus Scale is the best paid heavy shield in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla which combines a heavy dose of block and attack stats into one big wall. There’s nothing getting through this and you can be the wall of the team!

Undoubtedly the most out-of-world-looking heavy shield, the Hircocervus Scale will surely get you noticed. The shield’s perk will increase your melee damage when blocking and also glows in the process, talk about a cool shield!
This is not the only unique thing about this shield, you can not get this shield without buying the Draugr Armor Set for $20 or 2,300 Helix credits. In other words, it is part of a microtransaction.
I. Should You Buy The Hircocervus Scale in AC Valhalla?
The Hircocervus Scale is the best shield you can buy in AC Valhalla at $20 or 2,300 Helix Credits. Unlike other gear, it will cost you real world dollars.
The heavy shield comes as part of the Draugr Armour Set and you also get:

- Draugr Armor: Mythical Torso
- Draugr Bracers: Mythical Bracers

The Draugr is one of the most terrifying looking armor sets in the game and you will not regret buying this set. Personally, if I was buying this set just for the shield I would skip this since I prefer lighter shields to full tower shields but if you are looking for a full armor set then this is a no-brainer.
4. Other Shields in AC Valhalla, Ranked!
Since AC Valhalla offers both light and heavy shields, I’ve also split the list into these two sections so pick whatever suits your play style.
I. Light Shields

The Drekar shield can be bought at the Tamworth Fortress or at Ravensthorpe at your upgraded settlement for 500 silver coins. Combine this with its perk which gives you health regeneration after five successful blocks.
If the price tag is not something you would want to spend then the Drekar shield can also be found in the Cavella Outpost at Hamtunscire. The shield is in a chest located in a hidden room under the colosseum.
3Ursine Guard

The Ursine Guard is not the best shield on paper but is perfect to get you through your early game shenanigans. Its perk will increase your attack stat after you get hit but do note that the shield is a little bit on the heavier side.

Paying homage to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and the Ancient Greeks, the spartan shield is pretty balanced and its perk makes it only more desirable. After a successful block, the shield will increase Eivor’s damage.
The Spartan Shield can be found in a hidden area behind a wall near Old Gravesham Bridge in Essexxe. Use an oil jar or a powder trap to destroy the destructible wall.

The Morrigan’s Guard is not an early game shield, so you have to wait before you can get your hands on this shield but it will be worth the wait. This shield has pretty high stats and is very lightweight combined with them. The Morrigan’s Guard has a 33% chance of dropping a poison cloud on successful parries.
To get the Morrigan’s Guard shield you need to venture into Belas Knap, Glowecestrescire. The chest containing the shield is in a large tree protected by three locks. All the keys are found in and around the nearby areas.

Starting off with the heavy hitters, the Rune Shield is good for starter shields but I would recommend getting it upgraded as soon as possible if you plan to carry it for long. Get the Rune Shield by completing the ‘Viking for Hire’ which can be done by doing ten contracts for Reda.
2Sarcophagus Shield

The Sarcophagus Shield is a wide and popular choice and rightly so! Not only does it offer decent stats but its perk is what makes it favorable. If you parry an attack, the Sarcophagus Shield will have a chance to create some fire around Eivor. Get the shield from a passage in a fissure located in the Sciropescire region.

The Royal Shield is a Superior Heavy Shield with a special perk that will increase your Heavy damage while it is actively blocking. If you are like me who parries more than this shield will feel right at home for you. You can buy the Royal Guard for 500 Silver coins at Tamworth Fortress.
