Frank Grillo Quits the MCU To Join James Gunn’s New DC Universe

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Frank Grillo has announced that he will be part of James Gunn’s DC Universe. This is happening as the current DCEU approaches its end, and Gunn and Peter Safran are developing a fresh DC Universe.

The upcoming Flash film will act as a reboot for the DCEU and lead into the new DC Universe. This new continuity will officially start with Superman: Legacy, a movie written and directed by Gunn.

Frank Grillo, who has previously portrayed Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been hinting at his involvement in the DC Universe for some time now.

Recently, he revealed in an interview with Comic Book that although he was disappointed with his MCU stint, he is excited to be a part of the DC Universe under James Gunn. Grillo’s statement has not been confirmed by DC Studios or Gunn yet.

They never told a story [about Crossbones]. The mythology of the MCU and just what Marvel has in its pool of characters, it’s so deep. Crossbones was there for a minute, but he was supposed to be there longer, then they went in the direction they did. I think Crossbones serves a purpose, but I think the interesting thing is that if you see how many people around the world have responded to Crossbones, and again, he’s on the screen for a very f–king short amount of time, I think there’s more there. I think there was more meat on the bone. I was disappointed, which is why I went over to DC.

The biggest question is which DC creative Grillo will be a part of.

Creature Commandos, the upcoming animated series, seems to be the most probable project. Gunn has finished writing the entire season and is probably in pre-production.

However, if Grillo plays a role in Creature Commandos, it could mean he may also have a significant part in other projects.

If actors are chosen for animated roles in the DC Universe, they also portray their live-action counterparts. Creature Commandos is the most suitable option among the DC projects because of its progress in the HBO Max series.

Grillo may also have secured a part in one of the other upcoming projects at an early stage. Despite the scripts not being finalized, Gunn might have contacted Grillo to ensure his availability for his DC Universe character.

We expect that Gunn will officially disclose the identity of Grillo’s role in the DC Universe shortly.
