Percy Jackson & The Olympians Might Arrive Sooner Than Expected

Walker Scobell, who will play the titular character in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, teased the release date for the series and it might be closer than expected!

The upcoming Disney+ series is an adaptation of Rick Riordan’s YA fantasy series of the same name. Riordan himself is one of the writers of the series, and he promises that the series will remain as faithful to the original books as possible.

Fans of the franchise, who were greatly disappointed with the 2010 films based on the same series, are looking forward to this much-awaited adaptation.

In an interview with GoErie, Walker Scobell teases that Percy Jackson and the Olympians might be arriving on Disney+ sooner than expected. Previously, Riordan had mentioned that the series would premiere in early 2024.

However, Scobell mentions that as of now the makers are looking at a late 2023 to early 2024 release date. This means fans might not have to wait for another year to see the son of Poseidon in action on screen.

Riordan’s original series consists of five books, and the first season of the series will most likely focus on the first book. But if Disney+ decides to move forward with the Percy Jackson franchise, they can have another successful franchise in their hands that can compete with the likes of the MCU.

Rick Riordan with the Percy Jackson Cast

The Percy Jackson series is also followed by a sequel series, the Heroes of Olympus which brings in a new protagonist called Jason. While the Percy Jackson series focuses primarily on Greek gods, the Heroes of Olympus brings Roman gods into the mix, making things even more interesting.

So, if Disney decides to commit to Riordan’s demigod franchise, it has the potential to become as big as the Harry Potter series, which was the book series’ direct rival as well. The teaser for the series confirms that the show will remain true for the books to the most part, with age-appropriate actors being cast in the roles.

It seems like Disney is looking at taking this franchise a long way as they’ve cast young actors in the roles. The Harry Potter trio was also cast quite early. The actors grew up along with the characters over the course of several films, which made them look age-appropriate throughout the movie series. Percy Jackson can surely take the same route.

Percy Jackson Teaser

In fact, the Percy Jackson movies received immense backlash for not casting age-appropriate actors. Logan Lerman was 18 years old when he played Percy Jackson, while Alexandria Daddario was 24 years old when she played Annabeth. Naturally, they were both way older than the characters were supposed to be.

Another reason why the films were a huge disappointment was the faulty CGI and bad writing. Riordan himself was disappointed with the outcome, which is why he’s now made it a point to play an active role in the development of the series.

Hopefully, Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be able to live up to its high expectations.
