Black Adam Star Comments on Hawkman and Doctor Fate’s Friendship

DCEU’s Black Adam is coming to theaters on October 21, 2022. The antihero’s film has been in the works for nearly a decade, but now that it’s only a month away, press tours are running twice as hard to raise expectations.

Hawkman actor Aldis Hodge has teased the deep friendship he shares with Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate, along with a few more interesting tidbits at a press event.

Hodge’s Hawkman and Brosnan’s Doctor Fate are members of the Justice Society of America (JSA). The JSA also includes heroes Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell).

Hawkman

The 2022 film will not only be the platform for Black Adam’s entry into the DCEU but also the entry of the JSA. Smallville Season 9 introduced the JSA and the Hawkman-Doctor Fate friendship that Hodge teases, and the DCEU film seems to follow the same path.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Aldis Hodge explained that Brosnan’s Doctor Fate acts as the voice of conscience for the JSA, especially Hawkman, the leader of the JSA when they go up against Black Adam.

The JSA… we are finding ourselves in camaraderie and, to a degree, finding ourselves [as a] family. With Doctor Fate [and Hawkman], that’s a long, long friendship. There’s a lot of love there. There’s a real brotherhood there. And they’re [asking] what is the right thing to do [about Black Adam]? Because Doctor Fate is sort of like a conscience for Hawkman.

The Hawkman actor also stressed that the JSA will be unlike any superhero team seen in movies till now. The JSA has a “refreshing new look at what a superhero team is,” says Hodge.

Honestly, don’t put us up against any of the other teams we’ve seen before because this is a very much refreshing new look at what a superhero team is as we come together into this space. You know, it’s a whole new experience. So, I think that that’s what you’re going to enjoy the most about it.

Doctor Fate

With the introduction of the JSA into the DCEU, Black Adam’s theatrical success will not only make fans hope to see the morally gray superhero again in sequels but also call for spinoffs for the JSA. The Justice Society of America’s entry into the DCEU opens a new path for the media franchise to explore.

With the film’s release in theaters on October 21, 2022, DCEU fans will just have to wait and see how Hawkman and the rest of the JSA stand against Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.
