Complete Monsterverse/Godzillaverse Watch Order Guide- Easily Rewatch Monsterverse

Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse, often compared to the immensely popular MCU, has captured audiences with its mass of colossal creatures. The franchise predominantly draws from the iconic Godzilla and King Kong sagas by blending original and reimagined renditions of iconic monsters from cinematic lore.

Exciting developments continue to unfold within the universe, with a new Apple TV series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, currently in production and the highly anticipated film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, set to release in April 2024.

1. Recommended: Chronological Order

Comparing the iconic Godzilla to today’s famous comic book heroes might not seem natural, but they have a lot in common. Just like Batman and Superman, Godzilla has been the subject of film adaptations since the 1950s.

As a result, it can be challenging to determine which movies to watch, as these iconic characters have evolved and appeared in various versions over the years. To fully appreciate the rich history of Godzilla, it’s best to organize the films into distinct eras and watch them chronologically.

Showa-era Godzilla movies in chronological order

The idea of cinematic universes started in the Showa era of Godzilla films. It includes 15 Godzilla films, including the 1955 original, and spin-off films that set up characters like Mothra and Rodan. The first two entries in the series see Godzilla as a terrifying force attacking Japan. Still, later entries in the series see the giant radioactive lizard evolve into a protector for Japan against other gigantic monsters.

To watch the series chronologically, you’ll need to save 1968’s Destroy All Monsters for last. It was designed to be the last Godzilla film and is set in the faraway future of 1999. You could also kick off a rewatch with Godzilla Minus One.

1. Godzilla (1954)

Heisei-era Godzilla movies

Another way Godzilla was ahead of its time: a reboot that ignores everything but the original.

The Heisei Era started in 1984 with The Return of Godzilla. It was a direct sequel to the 1954 original, ignoring all the other Showa-era movies. The films lead up to Godzilla’s death in Godzilla vs. Destroyah, but if you want to watch them in order, you should start with the original Godzilla film.

  1. Godzilla (1954)
  2. The Return of Godzilla (1984)
  3. Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)
  4. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
  5. Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992)
  6. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)
  7. Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994)
  8. Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)

II. Millennium series of Godzilla movies

The first film in the series was the 1998 disaster Godzilla. The film was a box office bomb and ended up not getting sequels. As the smoking crater from the film loomed before them, Toho recognized a golden chance to unleash a wave of thrilling Godzilla movies.

Thus emerged the Millennium series, each installment seemingly existing in its own unique universe, except Godzilla: Tokyo SOS – a gripping sequel to Godzilla against Mechagodzilla.

6. What to do if Monsterverse is unavailable in your region?

If Monsterverse is unavailable on any streaming website in your area, you can use a VPN to bypass the geo-block. Some of the top VPN service providers in the game are ExpressVPN, Nord VPN, Proton VPN, Cyberghost, and Private Internet Access, to name a few.

All you have to do is connect to a country where Monsterverse is streaming. You can now watch the series even if unavailable in your region.

There are many unpaid VPN services at hand or free browser extensions. However, low-tier VPN providers might decrease your speed and block you from streaming services. Connection drops and unsecured encryption are also other disadvantages.

7. How long will it take to complete Monsterverse?

Buckle up because you’re in for a monstrous movie marathon. You must carve out a solid 101 hours to conquer them all. But for die-hard fans, the time investment is worth it.
