Sony is working on a DualSense Controller w/ Predictive Assistance Solution

Summary

  • Sony has registered a new patent for a DualSense controller with a predictive AI assistance system.
  • The conceptualized controller will also feature light up button faces and a touchpad/display.
  • The AI assistance solution will track and monitor players’ performances and offer support when needed.

Sony launched its DualSense controller along with the PlayStation 5 with several improvements which contributed to a better gaming experience. Compared to its predecessor, the DualShock 4, the current generation controller features haptic feedback support, adaptive triggers, and a USB Type-C port instead of a microUSB.

Sony has secured a new patent for a much more refined version of the DualSense controller which features light-up buttons. The patent mentions a predictive AI assistance solution based on a machine learning model to track player’s performance and offer support when needed.

The controller will feature a touchpad/display which will show the button hints. This is not the first time a touchscreen was mentioned in a DualSense patent. However, the controller in question talked about lighting up buttons, shoulder triggers and both of its analog sticks.

Apart from the AI working model, light up buttons are not an unprecedented idea. Razer has been making gaming keyboards which allow players to craft color patterns that highlight controls using Razer Chroma Profiles.

The concept is certainly beginner-friendly as it would help those playing for the first time understand the controls. However, not every time does a patent turn into an actual product. So, better not get your hopes up just yet!

Even if Sony decides to go ahead with the conceptualized DualSense controller, there’s no telling when it will hit the markets. Since the product is still in its development stage, it could be months or even years before we get to test it out.
