Summary

  • Rockstar Games decided to post the official trailer for GTA VI a day before original schedule after a leak.
  • The 90-second video features Lucia who will be the first female protagonist in the franchise.
  • As revealed in the trailer, GTA VI will be hitting the markets in 2025.

Rockstar Games recently announced the trailer release date for Grand Theft Auto VI which was scheduled for 6th December. The tweet broke records by receiving the most likes for a gaming-related post within 24 hours. Clearly, this news took the world by storm. In a surprising turn of events, Rockstar Games decided to do something even more astounding!

Prior to its premier, a low-quality version of the trailer for GTA VI was leaked on Twitter by a throwaway account. In response to this, Rockstar Games released the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI a day before anticipated. No matter what led to this, the first look of GTA VI is finally here!

The trailer is a beautiful cinematic movie, and it packs a whole lot to uncover. The video opens with a shot of a swamp bridge bustling with traffic, as the sun sets in the background and Love is a Long Road by Tom Petty plays. Next are two shots from the Vice City Penitentiary.

In the first few seconds itself we get a glimpse at the first female protagonist in the franchise, Lucia. The Latina woman is clad in an orange jumpsuit and appears to be looking out the window. In the next shot, a correctional officer asks “Lucia, do you know why you are here?”. “Bad luck, I guess”, the former responds.

The trailer then presents the title card over a shot of the Vice City Beach. Halfway into the trailer, you can spot the Vice City sign which confirms the game’s setting. The rest of the video takes us through the city, giving us a glimpse of life in Vice City. There are shots of people cruising in blue waters, speeding on the highway with hands held high, soaking in the sun, and an unusual amount of social media posts.

The trailer suggests that there will be two playable characters in GTA VI, likely a couple. However, apart from Lucia, there was no mention of the male protagonist in the 90-second video.

The official announcement only mentions current-gen consoles so it could be possible that GTA VI skips PC at launch. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are all set to release in 2025.

As revealed in the trailer, Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in 2025. However, Rockstar Games did not disclose an exact date or month. According to Take-Two’s financial reports, it could be assumed that the company is targeting a Q1 2025 launch. So, it seems like this is all we have to look forward to!
