‘Naruto’ One-Shot Featuring Minato’s Story Gets Title and Release Date

Do you remember the “Naruto 99” character poll that was held worldwide to celebrate 20 years of the ‘Naruto’ franchise? If you do, you know that ‘Minato Namikaze’, also known as the Fourth Hokage and Naruto’s father was voted as the most favorite character.

Post results in April, Masashi Kishimoto announced that he is working on a one-shot featuring Minato as the protagonist. The release date was not announced until now.

The official website and Twitter for ‘Naruto’ have revealed that the one-shot featuring Minato Namikaze will be published on July 18 in Issue #33 of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. The title is “NARUTO Gaiden: Uzu no Naka no Tsumujikaze” and will be 55 pages long.

The artwork shows a shorter-haired Minato in a casual outfit, like a ninja trainee. He is also holding his signature three-pronged kunai. Kishimoto’s new one-shot arrives after seven years of the one-shot ” Naruto Side Story ~The Path That the Waxing Moon Illuminates~”, which arrived in April 2016.

The 33rd issue of Weekly Shonen Jump also marks the 55th anniversary of the magazine. As of now, the English title is not revealed but it roughly translates to “Naruto Side Story: Whirlwind in the Whirlpool”.

‘Naruto’ manga was completed in 2014, which also received two anime adaptations covering the whole story. Four new episodes will also debut in September this year to commemorate 20 years of Naruto.

It was previously hinted that Minato’s one-shot would reveal the secret behind his jutsu. The Yellow Flash’s techniques and style were so unique even among his peers that it feels strange why we never got to know more about it. I do feel that 55 pages is less, but it might turn out to be enough.
