Percy Jackson Season 2 Info: Release Date, Cast, Plot and Latest Updates

Every great coming-of-age story needs a first chapter that’ll pull you in. And while Percy Jackson and the Olympians just finished up a debut season that has mainly pleased fans of author Rick Riordan’s series of novels and newcomers alike, it remains a first chapter to what those invested seem to recognize as a larger story. But will it get the chance to continue?

1. Will there be a Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2?

Fans don’t need to worry! We will be getting a Percy Jackson Season 2. Disney+ has not yet renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a second season. However, the creators of the Disney+ series said they intend to create five seasons: one for each of the books.

Before Percy Jackson even premiered on Disney+, Rick Riordan revealed preliminary writing work had begun on the new season despite not having the official go-ahead.

Executive producer Jon Steinberg confirmed to Deadline in December 2023 that there have been “discussions” about moving forward with another run.

I think everyone has a real hope that this will live a long and healthy life. Right now, we’re trying to deal with step one. But we’d be lying if we said there weren’t people who are thinking about step two right now,” he said.

2. Is there a release date for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2?

Dinsey+ has not yet announced the release date for Percy Jackson Season 2. However, with the production team now well-versed in making the show, a late 2024 or early 2025 return seems feasible.

One potential delay could be the writing process for the new season, which may have faced a setback due to the Writers Guild strike in the previous year. But with no official updates on the matter, it’s premature to assume it will impede the progress of season 2.

3. Percy Jackson Season 2 cast: Who’s returning, and are there any new characters?

As of now, most fans assume that if a Season 2 does happen, the members of the Season 1 cast who return to the story will reprise their roles.

Under this assumption, one change that will have to happen is recasting Zeus. Sadly, the tremendously talented Lance Reddick passed away shortly after filming the show’s first season, so the king of Olympus will have to be portrayed by someone else for his future appearances.

Actors returning to their lead roles from Season 1 would be Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), and Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood).

Coming into Season 2 with a more significant role than in Season 1 would be Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue), whose character has a more prominent role in The Sea of Monsters than in The Lightning Thief.

Along with the familiar faces from Season 1, Season 2 would also require casting several new characters.

These would include pivotal roles such as Polyphemus, Tantalus, and Tyson. Notably, Tyson is the only one of these recurring Season 2 characters to appear in the future books of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series beyond The Sea of Monsters.

Other new characters who would re-appear in future seasons, if introduced in Season 2, are Charlie Beckendorf, Connor and Travis Stoll, the Party Ponies, and Thalia.

4. Upcoming Plot for Percy Jackson Season 2

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will likely be an adaption of The Sea of Monsters.

As the name implies, this book sends Percy into some dangerous waters. Still, more importantly, it also introduces a couple of fan-favorite characters to the series, who will finally be a treat to see in live-action.

The synopsis of The Sea of Monsters reads:

“When Thalia’s tree is mysteriously poisoned, the magical borders of Camp Half-Blood begin to fail. Now, Percy and his friends have just days to find the only magic item mighty to save the camp before monsters overrun it.

The catch: they must sail into the Sea of Monsters to find it. Along the way, Percy must stage a daring rescue operation to save his old friend Grover, and he learns a terrible secret about his own family, which makes him question whether being the son of Poseidon is an honor or a curse.”

Becky Riordan, executive producer of the show, talked to Deadline:

Sea of Monsters is one of my favorites. I love that we’re going to have more time with Grover, so I’m hoping that happens. It will be fabulous because Aryan [Simhadri, who plays Grover] is an amazing actor.”

5. A rundown of Percy Jackson season 1 for the uninitiated!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians” follows Percy, a 12-year-old learning that there is more to his absent father than he thought. Percy is the son of Poseidon (Toby Stephens), the Greek god of the sea, making him a demigod or half-blood.

While training, Percy goes on a quest to recover Zeus’ stolen master bolt. The Greek god of the sky believes Percy stole it, so it’s up to the preteen to figure out who did it, take the bolt from them, and return to Olympus. He takes Grover and Annabeth, a daughter of Athena, with him on his journey.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians ended with Percy completing his quest and preventing the war between Zeus and Poseidon.

In the finale, Percy defeats Ares and delivers Hades’ Helm and Zeus’ Master Bolt to their rightful owners.

He convinced Zeus to call off the war against Poseidon with the help of his father. But returning to camp, he realized that it wasn’t Clarisse who stole the lightning bolt. It was Luke, and that’s how the prophecy of him being betrayed by a friend came true.
