Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Who plays Augustus in the TV Show?

The highly-anticipated sixth episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians dropped on Jan. 16, and it delivered. The enthralling narrative of Percy’s journey to locate the elusive lightning bolt carries on at the opulent Lotus Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, where a fascinating new character named Augustus makes their debut.

The first season of the Disney+ fantasy television show strays a bit from the source material during episode 6, “We Take a Zebra to Vegas,” one of the changes is the introduction of Augustus.

Let’s get into more details.

1. Who portrays Augustus in the Percy Jackson TV Show?

First of all, Mark Hamill does not portray Augustus despite their striking resemblance. Percy Jackson’s Augustus is played by Canadian actor and playwright Ted Dykstra.

Dykstra, a playwright and actor, is known for his voice roles as Dad Tiger in Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Reg in RoboRoach. He has also appeared in shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Reign, Orphan Black, Transplant, and The Expanse.

2. “Augustus” Lore in the Books Explained- What was his role?

The appearance of Augustus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6 will be a mystery to many as he is not found in the original book on which season 1 is based. So do not be confused if you don’t remember him despite reading the book.

In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Grover does not befriend anyone else when staying in the Lotus Hotel and Casino, meaning Augustus is an entirely new character.

In the Percy Jackson Episode 6, Grover introduces us to Augustus, a Satyr who he is familiar with from their time at Camp Half-Blood. Grover shares that Augustus, like his uncle Ferdinand, is a skilled Searcher.

In Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 4, we discover that Searchers are a distinguished group of older Satyrs who hold a coveted Searcher license. These skilled Protectors, such as Grover to Percy, are promoted to the rank of Searcher when they complete their assigned missions.

Charged with the daunting task of finding the elusive god of the wild, Pan, these brave Satyrs venture into the world to pursue their ultimate goal. However, it is disheartening to learn that no Satyr has ever returned from this quest.

Augustus is an older satyr trapped in the Lotus Casino in Percy Jackson and the Olympians for many years. He was one of the many satyrs to set out on a quest to search for Pan, the Greek god of the Wild, and when Grover encounters Augustus in episode 6, he claims to have found Pan.

However, as the episode continues, it becomes evident that the Lotus Casino has fully affected Augustus’s mental state and that he has not discovered Pan.

3. How Long Augustus Has Been Trapped In The Lotus Casino?

Before delving into the length of time Augustus was stuck in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6, it is essential to understand the reason behind his entrapment.

As Grover explains, the Lotus Hotel and Casino has become the latest residence of the Lotus Eaters, a notorious group of individuals from Greek mythology.

These beings would lure unsuspecting travelers to their island by providing Lotus flowers, which induced a blissful ignorance. Those who consumed the flowers would lose all control over their own will, desires, sense of urgency, and memories.

It is evident from the episode’s subtle hints that Augustus has been under the spell of the Lotus Eater for many years. This is supported by the fact that he is the one who sparked Grover’s uncle Ferdinand’s journey. Additionally, Augustus donned garments reminiscent of the 1980s or 1990s, further reinforcing the hypothesis.

Therefore, it can be inferred that Augustus has been absent for at least twenty years, placing him in the same timeframe as Grover, 24, and Ferdinand before the latter embarked on his own Searcher quest.
