The Marvels Connection and MCU Future Set-Up Explained

Although it may seem self-contained, The Marvels lays the foundation for numerous upcoming MCU films. Initially, it could be easy to assume that The Marvels would be separate from the larger MCU storyline. After all, its marketing portrayed it as a standalone film, focused on the team’s battle against Dar-Benn and building upon the trio’s backstories.

But as the gripping ending of The Marvels unfolds, it becomes clear that this assumption is far from the truth. As the film’s final scene hints at a future installment and the post-credit location teases another, it is apparent that it is an essential piece in the epic journey of Phase 5. The cleverly placed Easter eggs further confirm this throughout the film, pointing toward what will come.

6. Captain Marvel 3

Despite serving as Captain Marvel 2, the least obvious set-up for a future movie in The Marvels was Captain Marvel 3. The main reason for this came from the other incredibly exciting teases in the film’s ending and post-credit scene, though that is not to say there was no set-up for Captain Marvel 3.

By the film’s end, Captain Marvel had undergone a significant change by coming to terms with what happened with the Kree and learning to trust in others. Through this, it is clear that Carol’s MCU story will continue, likely in Captain Marvel 3 at some point.’

5. The Marvels 2

While there are high possibilities of Captain Marvel 3 after The Marvels, the more likely route for a continuation of Carol Danvers’ journey would be, without any doubt The Marvels 2. The titular trio’s chemistry was the best part of The Marvels, with each character complimenting each other.

Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani’s performances helped this shine as their chemistry quickly became evident. This made it so that The Marvels was at its best when the team was onscreen together, setting the stage for The Marvels 2.

The Marvels 2 is the perfect next step for Captain Marvel’s story, especially considering the intriguing clues it drops. At the film’s end, Monica Rambeau is shown in another dimension, yet Kamala and Carol remain optimistic about her return, indicating a possible future team-up.

Additionally, the chemistry between Kamala, Carol, and Monica has the potential to be a significant success for the MCU, making a sequel to The Marvels all the more promising.

4. X-Men

One thing The Marvels got right was the biggest X-Men Teases.

Although The Marvels set up Captain Marvel 3 and The Marvels 2, it is clear that the film was more focused on teasing other future MCU movies.

One of those movies is MCU’s X-Men, as teased in the post-credit scene.

Monica Rambeau awakens in a strange location after slipping through time and space due to Dar-Benn creating incursions. She is shocked to find herself in a room with Maria Rambeau, her mother, whom she thought died during the Blip.

Well, behold, for the plot twist! It is later revealed that this version of Maria is not Monica’s mother but instead a variant who is an ally of the X-Men.

This is solidified by the appearance of Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy/Beast. This appearance, combined with the iconic silver X door and mention of Charles Xavier, solidifies The Marvel’s teases towards the MCU’s X-Men movie coming to life shortly.

3. Deadpool 3

Hank McCoy/Beast’s appearance in The Marvels is a Marvel tease and connects the film to Deadpool 3. Not much is known about Deadpool 3’s story thus far. However, the film will blend the worlds of Marvel Studios’ MCU and 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise.

From the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool to the rumored inclusion of Loki’s Agent Mobius and Miss Minutes, Deadpool 3 will be a film that deals heavily with the mutant side of Marvel’s multiverse.

Since Kelsey Grammer played Beast in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe, Monica Rambeau awakened within this franchise’s continuity. This could mean that Monica will be appearing in Deadpool 3. This theory is further supported by the rumors that the film will be integral to future MCU properties like Avengers: The Knag Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

With the mutants now firmly established as part of the MCU multiverse via Marvel’s post-credit scene, it stands to reason that Deadpool 3 could see a continuation of this specific plot line.

2. Young Avengers

The MCU Phase 4’s Young Avengers Teases Finally Come to Fruition.

At the film’s end, Kamala becomes inspired by her brief time as part of the titular Marvels and wishes to build her team. The final scene saw Kamala acting as a hilarious Nick-Fury-esque character and visiting another young MCU superhero.

The hero is Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, who first debuted in 2021’s Hawkeye.

Kate is shown entering her New York flat in her Hawkeye costume only to be greeted by Kamala. Kamala states that she is putting together a team of younger superheroes.

The Marvels cleverly hints at a third MCU Young Avengers member besides the duo. Kamala asks Kate if she knew that the Ant-Man had a daughter. This teases Cassie Lang’s inclusion. MCU always manages to gift us the best connections and teases.

After Phase 4 endlessly teased the Young Avengers, from Kate and Kamala to Eli Bradley, Kid Loki, Wiccan, and Speed, The Marvels finally confirms that a Young Avengers film is coming.

1. Avengers 5

The most critical teases must be the elements hinting at the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty conflict. Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars are expected to utilize the multiverse concept to its full potential.

These highly anticipated movies are expected to bring together the Marvel multiverse. Therefore, Monica’s post-credit scene in The Marvels connects to Avengers 5. If Monica plays a role in the latter film, she could be integral in getting the X-Men of the universe she is now part of to fight against Kang.

We saw Dar-Benn inadvertently cause an inversion in The Marvels. This concept is tied intrinsically to the multiverse and could feature in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as part of the Multiverse Saga.
