Loki Season 3 News and Updates: Everything We Know

In short, we’re not yet sure. Marvel hasn’t announced if Loki is returning for a third season on Disney Plus.

Unlike the first season, there was no announcement in the Loki season 2 post-credits that the series would return. Then, there were those Variety reports about how this was potentially the end of the road for the Disney Plus show.

The TVA’s famous slogan, “For All Time, Always,” begs the question: how strictly do they adhere to it? Especially considering that after three years, Loki’s widely acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe series, which has been granted a second season, has reached its conclusion. But Loki’s death has been staged before, which certainly didn’t hinder his return for a whole new journey.

With the apparent ultimate resolution in the season 2 finale of Loki, how exactly could he come back? The solution may be right in front of us all along.

1. Loki Season 2 Episode 6 depicted him as he reached his final form

Gone was the 2012 God who wanted power because he’s a God. Faced with the destruction of time itself and the friends he’d grown to love, he decided he would be a selfless God and purposefully destroyed the Time Loom.

But in its wake, he leaves behind a beautiful tree, with him in the center. He may not be able to return to the TVA, but he can keep time growing.

Wright opined the possibility of Loki continuing, especially considering Marvel’s pivot away from a six-episode Disney+ mini-series to shows that could last for multiple seasons.

“How do we do these efficiently, but also so that we can have seasons three, four, five?” Wright said. “The whole idea of long-form is you want these to be sustaining, and I think we’re starting to find that in Loki and deliver on it. So, I would certainly love to keep telling stories in this little corner of the universe we’ve made.”

That last line leaves the door open for Loki Season 3.

2. How could Loki return for season 3?

We know that variants are now part of the time for good after Loki’s sacrifice. We saw B-15 ask if any other Kang variants know about their existence. We also know Loki has plenty of variants. After all, Sylvie is one.

While the Loki we’ve followed for the past few years is now part of the universe’s material, nothing is stopping another variant (preferably one who looks like Tom Hiddleston) from taking the TVA.

But would bringing in a new Loki lessen the impact of the original’s sacrifice? The future of Loki lies with the first variant we met: Sylvie. How will she rebuild her life? No matter what Loki looks like, the Season 2 finale proved that the door to this Loki is closed but Marvel always leaves a window open just in case.

3. About Loki

Loki is an American TV series created by Michael Waldron for Disney+ and Marvel. It is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with events of the series taking place after Avengers: Endgame.
