Fire Force and Soul Eater: The Connected Universe Unveiled

The 2015 anime Fire Force tells the tale of pyrokinetic firefighters like Shinra Kusakabe, who can control and fight fires. On the other hand, Soul Eater, which debuted in 2004, is situated in a school where a Shinigami teaches people how to use various weapons.

Fans of Fire Force were confused when at the end of Fire Force, they got to see some familiar faces from the authors’ previous anime, Soul Eater.

Fire Force is indeed a prequel to Soul Eater. The two series are connected by Shinra’s power to create a new world that can stop the Evangelist and her cult.

The world he created is the setting of Soul Eater, where death is more valued than life, and people fight against evil with weapons that have souls.

In this article, I present all the evidence and hints that confirm that Fire Force and Soul Eater are set in the same Universe.

1. Hints Given During the Manga Run

Fire Force has made several references throughout its run. One of the most prominent points of reference is the depiction of the moon, which has a creepy grin in both series.

The Soul Eater insignia on Shinra’s childhood t-shirt, Akitaru’s mask resembling Eibon’s visor mask, and Rekka Hoshimiya’s star-shaped pupils like those of House Hoshi members are a few more frequent instances.

The presence of Excalibur, a legendary sword that appears as a comic relief character in both series, is another vital piece of evidence. Excalibur is an annoying and arrogant weapon that claims to be the strongest in the world, but no one can stand his personality and demands.

2. The Author’s Odd Habit

Fire Force and Soul Eater are popular anime series with the same creator, Atsushi Ohkubo. Both anime are based on his manga works, which have a distinctive art style and a blend of action, comedy, and fantasy.

Moreover, Soul Eater manga referenced author Atsushi Ohkubo’s first serial work, B. Ichi. Going only via pattern, it would not be uncommon for the author to reference another one of his Hit anime in Fire Force.

3. Ending of Fire Force: Final Piece To the Puzzle

In the final chapter of Fire Force, the author officially confirmed that the series is a prequel to Soul Eater.

Shinra decided to change the world after defeating the Evangelist. He realized that the root of all problems was the Holy Sol Religion, a cult that worshipped life and followed the will of ‘God.’

Shinra decided to create a new world where life had less value and death was more revered. He also made Lord Death a shinigami overseeing this new world.

In the last chapter of Fire Force, we saw Maka, Soul, Death the Kid, and Black Star on the final pages as a bonus. These characters are from Soul Eater, though they are younger here. Implying They were born recently when Shinra created the new world, aka the world of Soul Eater.

This twist confirmed that Fire Force was a prequel to Soul Eater and that Shinra was God in both worlds.

Shinra wanted to make a world where human combustion would not happen; instead, other supernatural phenomena would occur. It also explained why some elements of Soul Eater were more absurd and unbelievable than Fire Force, such as zombies, witches, kishin, soul resonance, etc.
