The Architect’s goal was to become immortal; he couldn’t do it alone, so he made that deal with Ashborn (aka the Shadow Monarch).

He needed a suitable human vessel to withstand Ashborn’s powers. However, it wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be.

He made a program called the “System” to speed up the search and train the player’s body.

The system works like a game; it assigns daily tasks/quests for the player in return for rewards like its own currency, weapons, unlocking new abilities, etc.

The Double Dungeon was a test created by the Architect to rule out a capable vessel for Ashborn.

During the Double Dungeon incident, the system chose Sung Jin Woo to be its player as, despite being a puny hunter, he had decided to sacrifice his life for the sake of others.
