Arnheid and Gardar: Vinland Saga Season 2 Ep 13 Ending Explained

Vinland Saga season 2 episode 13 debuted on Monday, April 3, 2023, bringing with it a tremendously thrilling and entertaining installment to the smash-hit series’ sequel season. The second half of the second season appears to be more dramatic and conflict-filled than the first.

When several stories begin to converge on Ketil’s farm, it appears that Thorfinn and Einar are going to find themselves in the eye of the storm.

The episode opens with a new character, neither Canute nor Thorfinn. We see this character surrounded by flames and wielding a bloodied sword. This man is tall and powerful, and he appears to be angry. In the same room, we witness an older man on fire, terrified, and pleading for mercy. The powerful man was wearing wrist cuffs that identified him as a slave.

His master proposes that he become the slave and the other man the master. The slave agrees, and now that he is master, he chooses to kill the man anyhow. The former slave now mounts a horse and goes through the wilderness, presumably in search of a woman.

Ending Explained

Back at the farm, a lone horse rider approaches Sverkel’s house, while Snake comments on how it’s not one of his own men. Fox and Badger are shown to be in tow, telling Snake that the rider is the runaway slave and that Lizard is dead. Arnheid seemingly recognises the slave, beginning to run after him and calling him Gardar as she yells for him.

The new character seen at the beginning of the episode is revealed to be Gardar. Gardar came to a halt and turned to face Arnheid, addressing her by her given name in answer. When Arnheid’s eyes widen with amazement and what looks to be terror, he exclaims, “I’ve finally found her, my wife.” The episode concludes shortly after that.

Season 2, Episode 13 of the Vinland Saga is an exciting and informative episode. The arrival of an escaped slave whose objective, for some unknown reason, is Arnheid complicates the situation.

It seems that there will be a huge conflict between Garnar and Snake. Arnheid, on the other side, seems completely shocked. It is difficult to say if she is happy to see her husband or if she is just in shock. This, on top of Ketil and Canute coming to the farm as well, set up a series of chaotic events in the future.

While strictly speculative, this might add to Thorfinn’s redemption arc, maybe pushing him to learn that sometimes fighting is really unavoidable.
