Destroying Fuel Silos in Helldivers 2 — A Complete Walkthrough

In Helldivers 2, you’ll sometimes be told to destroy Fuel Silos for taking down the Automatons industrial outposts. But the tricky part is that the game doesn’t tell you how to do that, so you’re pretty much left confused on the battlefield, inevitably getting swarmed by Automatons.

Your standard weapons and grenades are useless against the Fuel Silos. They’re essentially massive metal tanks, so you’re going to need something that creates a big explosion — maybe one of the biggest explosions in the game.

1. How to destroy fuel silos in Helldivers 2?

Fuel Silo — Helldivers 2

To destroy Fuel Silos in Helldivers 2, players need to use a Hellbomb and follow these steps:

  1. Look for Fuel Silos in areas where the map specifies the mission objective is located.
  2. Acquire the Hellbomb automatically by being near an object that can be destroyed.
  3. Call the Hellbomb as close to the Silo as possible for the best results.
  4. Clear the surrounding area of all enemies.
  5. Arm the Hellbomb using the code that appears on the terminal.
  6. Run to safety.

Hellbombs are the most effective way of blowing up Fuel Silos as they not only kill everything near them but also have a huge blast radius. With that out of the way, let’s get to explaining the steps in detail below.

2. Look for Fuel Silos in the Mission Objective Areas

The first step to destroying Fuel Silos is looking for them. They’re large, dark, cylindrical structures with red lights on them, so you should not have any difficulty spotting them on the battlefield.

They’re primarily located in the areas where your map indicates the mission objective is so head there once you drop. Once you’ve the Fuel Silos, proceed to the next step.

3. Acquire the Hellbomb by Being Near a Destructible Object

Hellbomb — Helldivers 2

Hellbombs are a type of Stratagems in Helldivers 2 that are mission-specific, so you don’t really need to obtain them as you’ll automatically get them for free. It’ll become available as soon as you’re near an object that can be destroyed.

4. Call the Hellbomb Close to the Silo

Once you have the Hellbomb, you’ll need to call it in. Remember that you can call them down when you’re within the same area as your objective which is why you need to be close to the Fuel Silos.

After calling down the Hellbomb, it’ll land exactly on the area in which you summon it. Now all you need to do is arm it by interacting with it but before that, worry about the threats in the area.

5. Clear the Surrounding Area of All Enemies

After calling it in, the next thing that you absolutely must do is clear the surrounding area of all enemies; otherwise, they’ll swarm the Hellbomb and you won’t be able to arm it.

If the Hellbomb somehow gets damaged, then don’t panic, as you can call in an unlimited supply of Hellbombs until you’ve completed your objective.

6. Arm the Hellbomb Using the Code on the Terminal

Arming the Hellbomb — Helldivers 2

Unlike any other Stratagems in the game, the Hellbombs do not explode on impact as it has to be armed first. After clearing the surrounding area of any threats, interact with the Hellbomb and input the code that appears on the terminal to arm it.

Note: Once all “Destroy” objectives have been completed, the Hellbomb will no longer be available to call for the rest of the match so plan which objectives you’ll do first accordingly.

7. Run to Safety

After you’ve armed it, all you need to do is run to safety. Run as far as possible, because the blast radius of this thing is massive. If you’re not far from it, you’ll die alongside every enemy in the nearby area, and trust me, you really do not want that after all that work.

Once the dust settles, you’ll no longer see the Fuel Silo standing in your view. You’ve successfully managed to take it down and are one step closer to taking back Super Earth’s colonies from the Automatons.
