Until recently, Iron Hands was the top choice for Tera Raids and was completely dominating the scene. However, since the announcement of the 7-level Charizard Tera Raid, Azumarill is in a rage.
Unlike Iron Hands, Azumarill is a Fairy Type Pokémon and is more resistant to Fire-based attacks. It also has high attack power and shares its overpowered moves like ‘Belly Drum’.
We aim to help you prepare your Azumarill for the highest-level Tera Raids.
Azumarill can be caught near Casseroya Lake. To make it Tera-ready, you need to EV train your Azumarill to max out its stats. You also need to teach your Pokémon, Belly Drum ability. This can be done with the help of the item ‘Mirror Herb’.
Where do you find Azumarill?
Azumarill can be caught as a Wild Tera-type Pokémon with Fairy-type near the Casseroya Lake which is present in the North-West region of Paldea.
This Wild Tera Pokémon will be at Level 55 when you first catch it from where you can level it up. It is also guaranteed to possess Hidden Ability,’ Huge Power’ which doubles Azumarill’s attack stats.
How to teach Belly Drum to Azumarill?
Once you have caught the Pokémon, you need to teach Azumarill, Belly Drum, and Light screen. While teaching Light Screen can be achieved by using TM, Belly Drum can be a little tricker.
1. First, you need to delete one of Azumarill’s moves, so there is one empty slot left. I recommend removing ‘Sing’ and ‘Liquidation’. Play Rough is an important move, so be sure not to remove it.
2. Fly to Delibird Presents and buy an item called ‘Mirror Herb’ which will be available for 30,000 Pokédollars. Make your Azumarill hold it.
3. Catch a Hariyama which can teach your Pokémon Belly Drum. Throw a short picnic and your Azumarill will learn the move briefly after. Make sure your Hariyama only has Belly Drum in its move list.
Level it Up!
After you are done teaching Azumarill Belly Drum, you will need to level it up. If you are going in higher-level Raids, you do not want to enter without having a properly leveled Pokémon. This is especially true for the Charizard Tera Raid.
1. Head toward Montenevera to Hyper-train your Pokémon. Behind the Poké Center, you are gonna find an NPC who can train your Azumarill. Remember to have Bottle Caps ready for this task.
2. The next step would be going to Chansey Supply Stores. You need to max out your HP, this is one of the biggest weaknesses of Azumarill.
You would need approximately 26× HP, 26× Protein, and 1× Zinc. This will be an expensive purchase and if you are short on money, you can always head to the wild and EV train through Power Bands and other methods.
Casseroya Lake is a great place for EV training. To give an estimation, you need to defeat approximately 26 Revarooms to max your IV stats. You can also check your EV stats by opening the Summary Stats and pressing ‘L’. If it’s sparkling, you have sufficiently trained your Azumarill.
3. Change the nature of Azumarill to Adamant if it is not already so. You can do this by giving your Pokémon, Adamant Mint which can be purchased at Chansey Supply Store as well.
Once you are done with this, you will have a Level 100 Azumarill with maxed-out stats and Belly Drum move. This would be your ideal Pokémon to fight in Tera Raids and can also help you take down Level 100 Charizard.
