Zoro’s lineage has been a mystery since the beginning of the show. Finally, after years, Oda decided to drop a bombshell about Zoro’s lineage. Turns out, the lineage of our favorite swordsman isn’t ordinary either.
Let’s find out more about Zoro’s impressive bloodline and if he is related to Shimotsuki Ryuma!
Oda revealed a detailed family tree of Roronoa Zoro in the recent SBS corner of volume 105 of the manga. There, it has been revealed that Zoro’s family comes from Wano and that he is related to Shimotsuki Ryuma.
1. Zoro’s Family Tree- Explained!
According to Oda, 55 years ago, a ship left Wano country and carried Shimotsuki Furiko who was the older sister of Shimotsuki Ushimaru.
Three years later, in East Blue, they defeat the bandits who were terrorizing the village. Ten people from the ship decide to settle there.
Shimotsuki Furiko then went on to marry a swordsman named Roronoa Pinzoro from that village. They gave birth to Roronoa Arashi, who went on to marry Terra, the daughter of the bandits.
Roronoa Arashi and Terra would go on to give birth to our favorite swordsman, Roronoa Zoro. Arashi died in a battle while Terra died due to illness and orphaned Zoro in the process.
Zoro then went on to join the Dojo that was established by the Shimotsuki family and met his cousin, Shimotsuki Kuina, who later passed away in an accident!
The grandmother of Zoro, Shimotsuki Furiko was descended from Ryuma, the legendary swordsman of Wano. Meaning, Zoro is very much related to the God of Blade.
Zoro encountered Ryuma in the Thriller Bark arc where Gekko Moria reanimated him using Brook’s shadow. We saw that Zoro and Ryuma share multiple similarities including appearance and their fighting style.
Zoro being related to this extremely powerful samurai might explain a part of his insane ability.
