Katabuchi’s “Mourning Children” Anime Film to Receive a Pilot Video

Sunao Katabuchi is known for directing heartwarming masterpieces like In This Corner of The World, Princess Arete, and Mai Mai Miracle. Just like Ghibli, Katabuchi’s movies are magical, endearing, and made with care. He has recently announced a new film called Mourning Children.

The staff of the new feature anime film “The Mourning Children: Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black” will show the pilot video for the movie during the Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair, which will take place on September 16 and 17.

They will also reveal more of the film’s staff during this event. Katabuchi began developing this movie very early in 2017.  The story is set in Kyoto during the 10th century when “The Pillow Book” was written by real-life literary figure Sei Shōnagon.

A previous video for the film teased that Sei Shōnagon will be a character in the movie, alongside character names such as Koretada, Tokinaka, Chikatada, and Takaie.

The story is set in 10th Century Kyoto, when ‘The Pillow Book” was written by Sei Shōnagon, who will also appear as a character in the film. It will feature an epidemic.
