Bungou Stray Dogs Author Explains What Makes Dazai so Attractive

If you are on social media apps, there is a 90% chance that you have seen a million edits of Dazai. He is a super popular character, and everybody, irrespective of sexuality, simps over this crazy man.

Now, what makes Osamu Dazai such an attractive individual? It is not just the looks or the voice; it is something more profound than that. And who better than the original creator and novelist Kafka Asagiri to talk about the reason behind his attractiveness?

During the world premiere of the fifth season of Bungo Stray Dogs anime at Anime Expo, the press had the opportunity to sit down and speak with the original creator, author, and novelist Kafka Asagiri about various subjects, including Osamu Dazai.

When he was asked the question about why Dazai remains fascinating to Japanese audiences? He answered by saying the following.

“Think of Dazai as a donut. What’s in the middle? No one knows. That’s something that not even director Igarashi knows, or the voice actor for Dazai, Mamoru Miyano. In the middle of that unknown is the question, “Why does Dazai want to die?” That core aspect about him is why everyone gets pulled into the rest of the story.”

He is goofy and pulls weird stunts, which contradicts his dark past. However, this thing draws towards him. We always gravitate toward mysterious people.

While he may look like a slacker, he is entirely the opposite of what he portrays. He is fully confident in his abilities, meticulously crafting strategies behind the scenes and easily keeping a cool head in stressful situations. Only a few can match him in a battle.

He also tells us about his opinion on the original author Dazai is based on. The author wrote a book called “No Longer Human.” In this book, he included something no author could write down.

It’s a deep feeling of embarrassment that everyone relates to on some level. We all know this feeling, but no one ever dares to express it. But this author was able to portray it in a way that invokes deep and unsettled emotions.

Kafka Asagiri thus makes us understand why we are attracted to this beautiful man.
