Miyazaki’s “The Boy and The Heron” to Receive a Teaser on September 6

Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and The Heron” is one of the most mysterious films released this year. While releasing multiple teasers, trailers, and character promos have become the norm before an anime’s release, Miyazaki chose to premiere it without any such fanfare.

As a result, Ghibli fans had next to no idea about the movie until they reached the theaters. However, the strategy worked well; the anime film has already earned over $50 million.

Finally, after 45 days of the release, we have received a pre-teaser that gives us a glimpse into the plot before the main trailer.

GKIDS began streaming a pre-teaser video for Hayao Miyazaki’s latest feature film, The Boy and the Heron. The teaser introduces the story. The company will stream an English first-look teaser video with film footage on September 6.

THE BOY AND THE HERON | Introduction

The super brief 30-second video introduces the film in the form of text. The video talks about Mahito, a young boy who ventures into the world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning. It is a story of life, death, and creation.

This pre-teaser is incredibly cryptic, and we can only wait for the actual teaser for some information. Marketing the movie this way is a gamble but works as this is Ghibli we are discussing.

If any other studio attempted this no-trailer strategy, they would soon meet their downfall. “The Boy and The Heron” is the first Studio Ghibli film to get a simultaneous IMAX release.

The film has sold 4.95 million tickets for a cumulative total of 7,414,196,300 yen (about US$50.65 million). It was super successful, which made us more curious about the story.

Studio Ghibli movies produce magic, and the world stops to witness it. This movie focuses on life and death, and fans cannot wait for this beautiful film. However, it has not been released internationally, so we can only patiently look for more information.
