Gintama is an impressive manga that ran until June 2021 for 17 years. We have dearly missed this series, and this year, 2023, will mark the 20th anniversary of the manga. The staff decided to run a compilation movie to commemorate this occasion.
Baragaki Arc or Thorn Arc has been chosen for this event, and it is an excellent choice as it is one of the more serious arcs in Gintama. Many fans liked it, and it perfectly balanced comedy and action.

A website by BN Pictures has now revealed that a new Gintama on Theater 2D Baragaki Arc compilation movie will premiere in Japanese theaters on November 10. As the name suggests, this new movie will adapt Gintama’s Baragaki arc from the anime.
The anime’s Twitter account reports that the screenings will have “new bonus video content” but does not specify if the new video is story content or animated. The movie will be screened only for a limited period of 3 weeks at theaters.
The new site also released a visual for the Baragaki Arc movie—the visual features Toshiro Hijikata of Shinsengumi.
The Baragaki arc focuses on the story of a dim-witted noble boy called Tetsunosuke who gets sent to the Shinsengumi to be looked after. Tetsunosuke becomes Hijikata’s page.

However, the boy’s step-brother, Sasaki, the head of the Mimawarigumi, is up to no good and tries to sabotage the life of Tetsunosuke. Hijikata won’t stand for Sasaki’s plans and decides to push back for his page. And a full-scale war starts between Mimawarigumi and Shinsengumi
It is going to be epic to witness this movie in the theatre. And fans are excited about the “bonus” that was promised. Let’s hope this bonus is good enough for a 20th anniversary and wait for more information.
About Gintama
The story is set in an alternate-history late-Edo period, where humanity is attacked by aliens called ‘Amanto.’ Edo Japan’s samurai fight to defend Earth, but the shōgun cowardly surrenders when he realizes the aliens’ power.
He agrees to an unequal contract with the aliens, placing a ban on carrying swords in public and allowing the invaders to enter the country.
The samurai’s swords are confiscated, and the Tokugawa bakufu becomes a puppet government.
The series focuses on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, who works as an odd-jobs freelancer. Although the story is mostly episodic, a few story arcs and recurring antagonists develop.
