A much-awaited English-dubbed trailer for Hayao Miyazaki’s latest feature film, The Boy and the Heron (Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru ka, or literally How Do You Live?), was released by GKIDS. This masterpiece is going to hit the theaters on December 8th.

THE BOY AND THE HERON | Official English Trailer

The new dubbed English trailer features the voice-over telling Mahito he made it. The video then makes a sudden shift towards Mahito chasing his mother.

The footage also features the Heron who tries to lure Mahito into saving his mother. Mahito gets dragged into a strange place filled with the dead. Mahito realizes that his mother isn’t calling for his help and that it’s a lie, but he can’t help but go after her.

This begins a beautiful and engaging adventure to discover this strange world. Its new trailer also includes scenes not previously shown, most of which debut the voiceovers of the cast.

The trailer also introduces the voice cast for the English dub. All the voice actors for this anime are renowned names in Hollywood, and most of them consider it to be a privilege to be working in a Ghibli movie.

This is the second time Christian Bale is working in a Ghibli film. He had already voiced Howl in Howl’s Moving Castle, and he did a magnificent job. His “That’s my girl” still makes the hearts of many fans flutter.

Robert Pattinson was surprising in his role as a Heron. Nobody could ever have imagined that it was the same Pattinson who whispered throughout Twilight.

Ultimately, the English cast has done a pretty good job on the movie. English dubs generally make us feel queasy, but that isn’t the case with “The Boy and the Heron.” The voice acting in this movie is on point and keeps the magic of Ghibli alive.

So, add this to your watchlist if your soul needs some Ghibli healing magic.
