Netflix and Wit Studio on a Quest to Revamp ‘One Piece’ with New Animators

Summary

  • Jump Festa ’24 event revealed a new remake of ‘One Piece’ with a new animation team.
  • The anime will be remade starting from the East Blue Saga.

It’s been 25 years since the saga of One Piece began, and it has been an incredible journey! The anime itself is a masterpiece, with constantly evolving animation in each episode. Needless to say, fans are proud of the anime, which is why Netflix’s recent decision to revamp it might be controversial.

Never in our wildest dreams did we think One Piece would be redone. While it’s common for old series to get renewed versions, this 1000 episodes+ series is still ongoing and widespread!

The Jump Festa ’24 event revealed that Wit Studio is producing a remake of the One Piece anime for Netflix. The Official X Account states the series will adapt the anime ‘starting from’ the East Blue Saga.

Since the anime explicitly mentions the word ‘starting from,’ we can expect it to cover more than the East Blue Saga, but this is not confirmed. The remake is to commemorate 25 years of the anime.

A short commemorative video was released, and it talks about the legend that began 25 years ago and how it spread far and wide. In this interconnected world, the video calls us to embark on a journey “once again”!

The video announces a new animation team. We then hear Luffy’s voice in the background. He says he needs a crew and about how 10 members would do.

The official YouTube channel has also launched a new stream of the One Piece anime on October 29. The anime will stream throughout next year; unfortunately, it is only available in Japan.

After the unexpected and massive success of the live-action version of ‘One Piece,’ Netflix has finally decided to do more with this popular series.

While most fans are excited about this decision, it raises a question: is it necessary to redo a popular series? The charm of One Piece lies in its goofy animation style, and refining the style would probably take away the nostalgia factor.

So, let’s hope the anime does not end up as a subpar adaptation.

About One Piece

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997.

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!

Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. His diverse crew is joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
