Will WWE Make History with WrestleMania in London?

WrestleMania is the biggest event in the world of professional wrestling, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the announcement of its location and date for next year.

Rumors have been swirling that WWE is planning to bring the show to London, England, for the first time ever, but is there any truth to them?

The Rumor

The rumor started when John Cena made a surprise return at WWE Money in the Bank 2023, which took place at the O2 Arena in London on July 1st.

Cena challenged Roman Reigns, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, to a match at WrestleMania and then dropped a bombshell: he wanted the match to happen in London.

Cena said that he had been dreaming of headlining WrestleMania in London ever since he witnessed the legendary match between Bret Hart and The British Bulldog at SummerSlam 1992, held at Wembley Stadium in front of 80,000 fans.

Cena said that London deserved to host WrestleMania and would do everything possible to make it happen.

Cena’s words sent the crowd into a frenzy and sparked a massive online campaign by WWE fans to support his idea. The hashtag #WrestleManiaLondon went viral on social media, and many celebrities, athletes, and politicians joined the chorus.

The Reality

However, despite the overwhelming demand and excitement, WWE has not officially confirmed or denied Cena’s proposal.

WWE typically hosts TV shows in the UK every year, but there have been only two major PPVs since 1992. While WrestleMania 40 will take place from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in April 2024, England is long overdue for a “Big Four” PPV event, and WrestleMania is the biggest show of the year.

There are several challenges and obstacles that WWE would have to overcome to make WrestleMania in London a reality.

One of them is the time difference between the UK and the US, which could affect the viewership and revenue of the event.

Another is the logistics and costs of transporting the entire WWE roster, crew, equipment, and stage to another continent.

The final hurdle is the availability and suitability of a venue that can accommodate tens of thousands of fans and provide a suitable atmosphere for such a historic event.

The Hope

Despite these challenges, many fans still hope that WWE will listen to Cena and make WrestleMania in London happen.

Some have suggested that WWE could use a hybrid model of live and taped segments to cater to different time zones or hold WrestleMania over two nights as they did in 2020 and 2021.

Others have pointed out that WWE has successfully held PPVs in other countries before, such as Saudi Arabia, Australia, and Canada, and that they have enough resources and experience to pull it off.

As for the venue, some fans have suggested Wembley Stadium again, while others have proposed Twickenham Stadium or Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as alternatives.

WrestleMania in London would be a historic and monumental event for WWE, its fans, and the UK. It would showcase the global appeal and popularity of wrestling and provide an unforgettable spectacle for everyone involved.

It would also be a fitting stage for Cena’s potential last match, as he is nearing the end of his illustrious career. Whether or not WWE will make it happen remains to be seen, but one thing is sure: Cena has started a movement that cannot be ignored.
