Insidious: The Red Door – 11 Characters Returning for the Fifth Chapter

Insidious is back again to haunt the bejesus out of us, and this time it has The Red Door in its arsenal. The infamous franchise has always relied on its loyal cast, which has been the heart and soul of the horror saga.

Insidious started with Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Bryne) Lambert, who sought help from psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) to do something about their comatose son Dalton (Ty Simpkins).

The first film revolved around Dalton being stalked by malevolent spirits from a dimension called The Further. The terror continued for the Lambert family in Insidious: Chapter 2. However, the subsequent two sequels focused on exploring Elise’s paranormal outings and world-building.

Insidious: The Red Door is the fifth installment of the franchise and is set ten years after the Black Bride in Insidious: Chapter 2 possessed Josh.

The Lambert family is emotionally decimated, and the past trauma has divided the family. Josh now lives on his own, and Dalton is heading off to college.

One fine day, Dalton draws the Red Door in his art class, triggering the catastrophic memories of The Further, plunging the Lamberts into the battle between good and evil once again.

Here is the list of all the characters who are back to endure the full wrath of The Further in Insidious: The Red Door.

1. Josh Lambert

Patrick Wilson returns as Josh Wilson and makes his debut as the director in Insidious 5. Josh struggles to get close to his family, which triggers unresolved trauma in his mind caused by The Further all those years back.

Josh’sJosh’s investigation of his family’sfamily’s history of mental illness sets him on a path toward emotional redemption. This character arc, combined with some excellent acting from Wilson, makes Josh one of the characters to look out for.

2. Renai Lambert

Rose Bryne reprises her role as Renai Lambert, the woman who has been the knot holding the entire family together for so long.

The horrifying events have taken a toll on Renai, and she must try to shrug off the uncanny feeling that comes with living in a family with so many untouchable secrets.

Bryne brings a great deal of depth, sincerity, and earnestness to the Lambert family, and her chemistry with Josh will be the one to look out for.

3. Foster Lambert

The middle Lambert has a little more to do this time than in the previous Insidious installments. Actor Andrew Astor reprises his role as Foster Lambert, and he is off to college.

In the film, Foster is the one who calls the most from college to discuss the weird things that have been happening to him.

At one point in the film, he shares a key memory that turns the story on its head!

4. Lipstick-Faced Demon

The Lipstick-Faced demon has been a signature villain in the Insidious franchise.

It first appeared when it attached itself to young Dalton when he was just a baby and has been patiently waiting for a chance to do it again.

Each trip of Dalton down the lanes of The Further pulls him closer to being possessed by the demon.

5. Steven ”Specs” Fisher

Steven “Specs” Fisher makes a brief cameo as part of Spectral Sightings when Dalton needs to learn more about his nocturnal adventures.

Specs and Tucker have been making online videos about astral projection ever since Elise died. This helps Dalton comprehend how he travels to The Further in his dreams. Actor Leigh Whannell adds his Midas’ touch in the form of humor, which acts as the much-needed lightheartedness in an otherwise intense plot.

6. Carl

In another brief cameo in Insidious: The Red Door, Steve Coulter’s Carl, a psychic friend of Elise and Josh, attends Lorraine Lambert’s funeral.

Carl met Josh as a kid during his struggles with the Black Bride and helped free him from her clutches in Insidious: Chapter 2. The psychic also assisted Elise with Quinn in Insidious: Chapter 3.

7. Lorraine Lambert

Barbara Hershey’s Lorraine was a prominent figure in the previous installments of Insidious but has only been referenced in Insisioud 5.

However, her personal life still affects the plot, primarily how Ben Burton interacts with Josh and the Lambert family. Lorraine’s absence almost tears the Lamv=bert family apart, but it also makes them dig deeper and investigate the truth behind their pain.

8. Tucker

Tucker Croft is the tech-savvy partner of Specs in Spectral Sightings, where they share informative videos about ghosts and astral projection with the public.

Angus Sampson adds humor and energy as the more lively of the duo, and their camaraderie is still as strong as ever. Tucker probably also made the goofy animation that they use in their videos since he was always in charge of the techie stuff for their business.

9. Elise Reiner

Lin Shaye’s fearless Elise Rainier is the heart and soul of every Insidious movie.

She is a gifted medium and ghost hunter who has been with the franchise from the start. She helped Lorraine Lambert when her son Josh was troubled by The Further, and she came back to save his son Dalton from the same fate.

Even though a possessed Josh murdered her, she didn’t let death stop her from being a spirit ally in Insidious: Chapter 2.

In Insidious: The Red Door, she saves the day for the Lamberts yet again. Great spirit, eh?

10. Kali Lambert

Kali Lambert was just a tiny tot in the first two Insidious movies, but she’s a big girl in Insidious 5.

She’s been spared from most of the horrors that haunted her family over the years, and she barely remembers the time her dad did unspeakable things because he was possessed by the Black Bride.

Renai has always told her that any scary thoughts about daddy are nothing but bad dreams. However, this time, manipulating her will not be so easy!

11. Dalton Lambert

Ty Simpkins returns to a familiar role that he has grown up with, perfectly depicting the change in Dalton as he becomes an adult and navigates through life.

In Insidious 5, art becomes Dalton’s way of expressing his frustration toward his father. One day, he bleeds on a drawing of a red door and inadvertently attracts the spirits lurking behind it.

As he explores The Further without realizing the consequences, he seeks to find out the truth about his past and his connection to Josh and the terrifying Lipstick-Faced Demon.
