Heels Season 2 Premiere Recap & Ending: Redemption and Remorse

After an emotional rollercoaster of a conclusion in season 1, Heels is back for the second time, and the premiere begins precisely where season 1 ended.

Last season ended on a bitter note for the Spade brothers. For a start, Ace realized that Jack was the mastermind behind the Kleenex fiasco.

However, Jack has got much bigger problems heading into season 2. His marriage is in shambles, and rival Gully wants to ruin the Duffy Wrestling League owner after their scuffle in the last season finale.

Elsewhere, Crystal is the new DWL Champion after her unanticipated victory in the ladder match in season 1. The crowd seems firmly on her side, excited to back the new female champion.

However, are the ringmasters (especially Jack) convinced? It remains to be seen how season 2 deals with this chemistry.

‘Ten-Bell Salute’ resumes the story directly after the season 1 finale. It starts with Ace storming out of the arena before anyone can calm him down. However, due to the successful State Fair show, the general locker room vibe stays quite positive.

Meanwhile, The Florida Wrestling Dystopia promoter promises to get revenge on Jack for messing with him, and this will be one of the major dramatic arcs in the new season.

That said, the season 2 premiere primarily connects the present with the past rather than taking the story forward.

‘Ten-Bell Salute’ shows Tom Spade’s funeral in a series of flashbacks and highlights how his death affected those closest to him.

Jack is so angry and sad that he dramatically refuses even to read his farewell letter. Ace is even worse off as he is shattered by the feeling of not living up to Tom’s expectations.

The funeral, however, is not entirely bad. It is the first time Ace and Crystal encounter each other, igniting the flame for their future relationship to flourish. Crystal is still an admirer of the DWL at this juncture, and Ace has not yet made his mark in the ring.

Nevertheless, this is when Ace realizes that wrestling runs in his blood. Conversely, Jack contemplates shutting down the DWL, but Staci persuades him to stage one final show to pay tribute to Tom’s legacy.

Ace seems to have a burning desire to participate in the event and persuades Jack to mentor him in the art of wrestling. Jack agrees and soon discovers that his younger sibling has an innate talent for the sport, culminating in a sibling vs. sibling at the farewell show.

Ace emerges victorious, and the two brothers are met with thunderous applause from the audience.

The flashback sequences end with Jack’s decision to keep the company alive and extend an offer to Ace to co-manage it with him. However, we know their conflicting personalities are bound to clash sooner or later, and this initiation has made the season even more exciting.

After many flashbacks, we return to the present, where Ace collects his things from his maternal house and goes on the Iam. He doesn’t answer Jack’s calls and appears to be heading toward an unknown location without any plan.

The episode’s closing moments suggest that Ace is on a path toward self-discovery in his solo trip, with ‘Don’t Look Back’ playing in the background.

Staci, however, has not entirely shut Jack out of her life. She picks up his phone calls and admires his honesty with Ace regarding the Kleenex fiasco. However, she also says that she needs more time before finally returning home.

Jack then reads the letter his father left for him, only to discover that it is a brief note instructing him to look after Ace.

Many relationships might be on the rocks, but Heels season 2 premiere provides some feel-good moments to relieve us from the tension.

In the episode’s final moments, Bobby and Crystal kiss in the parking lot. This puts a spring in Bobby’s steps, as his relationship can now finally flourish with Ace out of the picture!
