Sex Education Creator Teases Future Spinoffs in the Moordale World!

Sex Education’s creator Laurie Nunn teases the possibility of our buddies at Moordale returning for a fifth outing, and the fans are already bubbling with excitement!

First released in 2019, the coming-of-age teenage drama features an ensemble cast led by Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emma Mackey. The series exploits the emerging sexualities of high-school teenagers and delivers several social messages while maintaining a hilarious undertone.

The show has earned positive reviews from fans and critics, with Netflix declaring that season 4 will wrap up the franchise following the departure of key cast members.

In an interview with Netflix Tudum, Nunn is asked whether season 4 will be the last time we encounter the dins and bustles of Moordale High. In response, she reveals that the maker wants to take a hiatus following its release but didn’t reject a possibility of a comeback altogether.

I’m definitely taking a break and thinking about other things. But Moordale is a really rich world, and writing about teenagers is always a lot of fun. So, I think that there’s always potential for more to be explored in that world.

Although season 4 wasn’t intended to be the final outing, the makers faced a severe bottleneck moving forward when many lead cast members opted out of the franchise.

While season 4 had its share of absentees (Simone Ashley, Tanya Reynolds, and Patricia Allison), the biggest blow came when Gatwa and Mackey called it a day after season 4.

Imagining Sex Education without Maeve and Eric is like thinking about Hogwarts without Harry and Hermione! Therefore, the best option is to wrap up the franchise without dragging it aimlessly.

However, we can’t rule out the possibility of a future spinoff, especially because season 4 is about to introduce a barrage of new characters, including Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy.

However, the makers need to find a proper glue to connect the old and the new generations, and Anderson’s sex therapist Jean Milburn seems to be the perfect candidate.

With Otis and his friends ending their adolescent journeys, Milburn will be the perfect candidate to start a new era in the franchise. With clever penmanship and direction, there is no reason for Sex Education 2.0 to emulate the success of the original series.
