Star Rosamund Pike teases the terrifying and nefarious villains of Wheel of Time season 2. Based on Brandon Sanderson and Robert Jordan’s book of the same name, the Prime Video series follows the saga of Moiraine Damodred, a member of the powerful Aes Sedai.
She has embarked on a perilous journey with five people who are believed to be the reincarnation of the Dragon, a mighty entity prophesied to either save or annihilate the whole world.
Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Pike was asked probing questions about the villains in season 2 in an interview with TVLine.
The star revealed that season 2 will be more expansive than its predecessor. She also hinted that there will be new villains who, unlike Trollocs and Fades, can engage in verbal and physical combats this time.
Her statements clearly hint at the villains’ viciousness, suggesting that life will not be easy for the protagonists this time. Read her full comments below:
We know what the One Power is. We know who the Dragon Reborn is, and what that means for the world. We know what the forces of evil are in this world, we know about Trollocs and Fades, but we still have other villains to reveal, which I am excited to unveil when Season 2 launches. And this time, our villains will not just be wordless. However frightening the Trollocs were, they can’t engage in verbal combat, and we have villains in this season who are terrifying in their cold-bloodedness.
Prime Video has long-term plans to make Wheel of Time an iconic series. Therefore, season 2 was renewed even before season 1’s launch.
Each season is expected to adapt one book in the 14-part series. So, we can expect season 2 to tell the story of The Great Hunt (and perhaps parts of book 3, The Dragon Reborn).
Filming began in July’21, and after more than a year, season 2 is set to release on September 1, 2023. We expect the show to retain the entire core cast from season 1, though Mat Couthon’s Barney Harris has been recast. In season 2, the iconic character will be played by Donal Finn.
Let’s anticipate the ‘terrifying’ villains of season 2.
Our best guess is that of Seanchan. Seanchan are the wrath of nature that enslaves the users of One Power. They were teased in season 1 and will undoubtedly play a huge role in the proceedings of the upcoming episodes.
As usual, the Dark One remains the most dangerous villain in season 2, as do his followers, who have been teased in the early trailers.
Since the release date is just around the corner, we won’t have to wait for long before the villains are finally revealed.
