As the first two episodes of Halo Season 2 unfolded, viewers eagerly awaited the arrival of the Covenant on Reach. The tension steadily mounted, setting the stage for a climactic showdown.

With Episode 3 teasing the start of the invasion in earnest, fans were undoubtedly on the edge of their seats, particularly at the iconic Visegrád Relay location – a haunting reminder of the Covenant’s initial assault in the beloved Halo: Reach video game.

1. How does Halo Season 2 Episode 3 End?

As it’s read, the camera pans across Reach, showing Ackerson fleeing the planet, Riz-028 relaxing with her instructor, and the bustling city. Once Perez concludes, she whispers that Covenant is on Reach. Before Chief can respond, the church explodes, properly beginning the Fall of Reach.

In Halo Season 2 Episode 3’s ending, Master Chief encounters Perez, who helps translate Sangheili’s speech, revealing the Covenant’s sinister plan to invade Reach and unleash destruction to achieve their goal related to the Sacred Ring. This revelation sends shivers down the spine as the narrator, Var’ Gatanai, details the Covenant’s ruthless intentions.

The episode reaches its pinnacle with a stunning montage, capturing the intense emotions and actions of our beloved characters as they face the looming danger. Kwan Ha and Laera devise a survival plan, while Riz and Louis share a heartwarming moment.

The departure of Ackerson from Reach only adds to the mounting sense of urgency and peril. As the tension builds to a boiling point, a loud explosion marks the outbreak of turmoil and strife on Reach.

The scene is now set for an epic clash between the resilient inhabitants of Reach and the formidable Covenant forces.

2. Will Ackerson fight for Reach?

Keyes surveyed the lifeless forms of the Cobalt Team, their necks scarred with burns from Covenant plasma. As an ONI agent described their discovery in the trees, Keyes couldn’t help but wonder what had struck them down so suddenly.

When the question of what to do with the bodies arose, Ackerson’s response was chilling: “There are no bodies.” He then ordered the Cobalt Team to be officially listed as Missing In Action.

Enraged, Keyes demanded to know if Ackerson was aware he had sent the team into hostile territory. With a cold calmness, Ackerson explained that it was only a matter of time before the Covenant discovered Reach. And Command knew this all along.

Keyes urgently implores Ackerson to activate Winter Contingency and initiate evacuation procedures for the millions of citizens in danger. However, Ackerson coldly refuses, claiming it is futile as the Covenant fleet is already en route.

Despite ONI’s plan to covertly rescue survivors, including Keyes, the determined leader vehemently rejects this course of action. He boldly proclaims his intention to fight and even specifies to Ackerson what he can do with his selfish attitude.

3. Why does Ackerson hate the Spartans?

Ackerson visits Halsey, eager to remind her of the SPARTAN-IIs’ shattered state. However, he shrewdly reveals they will pave the way for a superior generation (perhaps the SPARTAN-IIIs?).

Halsey, not one to back down, counters by needling Ackerson about his sister Julia’s death during SPARTAN-II augmentation, exposing the root of his hatred towards them. Ackerson’s grin widens as he leaves, only to return with Soren-066 in tow to Halsey’s cell.

In the vast expanse of space, Laera faces intense questioning from Soren-066’s crew regarding the coveted treasure rumored to be from Madrigal. Though Laura speaks the truth, her words are brushed aside as the crew moves her toward the airlock, threatening her with suffocation.

But just as the situation reaches a boiling point, Kwan steps in, heroically saving Laera from harm. Now adrift in the depths of space, far from the Reach of Kessler.

As Ackerson pays another visit to his father, he presents him with a pill, a means of ending his own life if he so desires. Just as his father prepares to ingest the deadly dosage, Ackerson delivers shocking news – Julia has returned.

With her arrival comes a flash clone; both father and clone ultimately meet their demise together, revealing the complexity of Ackerson’s character – at once caring yet deceitful.

4. What is the Covenant’s message from Sanctuary?

Chief finds Perez at a church, terrified and praying. She reveals that the Covenant’s message was a prayer, giving Chief the recording. Translating it, Perez says:

“People of Reach…I bring you blessings. Know that I’ve come without mercy. Without pity. Know that I am the instrument of your extinction. I bring this planet [Sanctuary] forth as a burnt offering.

Upon this altar, I place the head of the Demon. May his blood mark the way to the Sacred Ring and consecrate the Great Journey of my people. Know that I am Var ‘Gatanai. Know that I am…Death.”
