Does The Exorcist: Believer have a Post-Credit Scene?

The Exorcist: Believer is not only a sequel to the classic 1973 horror film The Exorcist but also the first chapter of a new trilogy of terror. 

The film follows Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), who survived a demonic attack on her daughter Regan (Linda Blair) nearly half a century ago, as she joins forces with Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.) to exorcise two possessed girls. So, what does it reveal about the future of the franchise? Is there a post-credits scene that hints at what’s to come in the next two movies?

Many studios use scenes during or after the credits to tease upcoming projects that have already been confirmed. Since The Exorcist: Believer is part of a planned trilogy, audiences might expect to see such a scene after the credits roll. However, this is not the case. 

The film does not have a mid-credits or an after-credits scene. Instead, it relies on the events and revelations of the main plot to set up the sequel. Therefore, viewers do not need to wait until the credits roll to get a glimpse of what lies ahead for Chris, Victor, and the demon.

This lack of post-credits is unexpected since The Exorcist: Deceiver is already in the works. However, staying for the credits is still an excellent way to appreciate the work of the writers, actors, and other crew members who brought The Exorcist: Believer to life. We don’t need a scene at the end to marvel at the crew that executed such an incredible film, do we?

This is an intelligent move by Universal and director David Gordon Green to expand the franchise. They have already revealed plans for two more films, but the details of The Exorcist: Deceiver and the third installment are still shrouded in mystery. 

The absence of a post-credits scene allows the franchise to grow organically and adjust based on the feedback from critics and audiences. This also avoids the risk of trapping the franchise in a predetermined plot or disregarding the tease altogether.

However, this does not mean that the audience will be clueless about the franchise’s future after watching The Exorcist: Believer. The film’s final scenes give some clues about what might happen next to the main characters. 

It sets up a rough outline for how the trilogy will progress. A post-credits scene after The Exorcist: Believer might have been unnecessary in this case, so it is better that the film does not have one.
