Loki Season 2 Episode 4 Easter Eggs Explained

The MCU always rewards you with something extra if you are a seasoned Marvel junkie, and Loki is no different. The show is packed with subtle easter eggs and references to past Marvel creatives, triggering the Sherlock Holmes in the seasoned fans.

In Loki season 2, episode 4, there are several reference points to the original Marvel comics, suggesting tie-ups to the past and predicting the franchise’s future.

So, without further ado, let’s start dissecting!

1. Ravonna’s Secret History

Ravonna Renslayer’s history is paramount to the future of the MCU and is in line with what the comics say.

The comics show a detailed record of Revonna Renslayer’s importance in the First Multiversal War and her tumultuous romance with Kang the Conqueror.

Although Victor Timely rejects her in this week’s episode, it’ll be interesting to see if she forms a relationship with a different Kang variant in the future.

2. Victor Timely’s Temporal Device

Victor Timely’s prototype device has been referred to as the ‘culmination of his work’ and looks very familiar.

Could it be the Multiversal Engine Core in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that was used to power Kang’s Time Sphere?

Perhaps it has several other uses besides what was shown in the film and also sets up Victor Timely as a dangerous variant of Kang the Conqueror.

3. Miss Minutes’ Lockdown Resembles Jurassic Park

In episode 4, Miss Minutes freezes several networks within the T.V. before O.B. reboots the system to kick her out.

The locked message appears on the TVA screens featuring Miss Minutes saying,’Ah ah ah, Access Denied!’

This is undoubtedly a reference to Jurassic Park when Dennis Nedry blocks access to the park systems, saying, ‘Ah ah ah! You didn’t say the magic word!”‘

4. Sylvie Teases Kang the Conqueror

In this episode, Sylvie fears that sparing Victor Timely might come back to bite them in the future as he might become ‘He Who Remains or someone worse.’

Here, she’s referring to a new variant of Kang the Conqueror, like seen in the Council of Kangs in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

5. Loki References MCU’s First Thor Movie

Loki references his brother’s banishment from Assgard in Thor(2011) in an intense debate with Sylvie.

He explains to Sylvie how Thor changed into someone with greater compassion. Loki used to consider that quality a sentimental weakness, but time has taught him that it is one of the greatest strengths someone in his position can have.

6. Ouroburos’ Guidebook Paradox

In Loki episode 4, Ouroboros claims he has learned everything about Victor Timely. However, Timely later points out that his source is the TVA guidebook that Ouroboros subsequently wrote.

This creates a massive paradox as he learns from himself without any origin of the information. Diving deep into the prospect, we realize that this is precisely what his name means, i.e., a snake eating its tail.

This further points toward his significance in the future of the show.

7. ‘Protocol 42’

In this episode, Ravonna Renslayer learns that she once fought by He Who Remains during the First Multiversal War. However, He Who Remains instructed Miss Minutes to initiate ‘Protocol 42’, which resulted in the agents of TVA getting their minds wiped, including Renslayer herself.

This explains why no TVA agent remembers anything about the Sacred Timeline’s past.

Moreover, 42 is a number of great significance in the Marvel Universe. Let’s understand why. 42 is the identification number of the spider that bit Miles Morales in the original comics and was also the designation of the Earth from which the spider came.

Prison 42 is also the name of the Negative Zone prison created in the comics by Mister Fantastic with the help of Hank Pym and Tony Stark.
