HBO Boss Gives Cautious Update on Various Game of Thrones Spin-Offs

Future Game of Thrones spin-offs, including Jon Snow’s show, got a cautious developmental update from HBO boss Casey Bloys.

After the record-smashing success of Game of Thrones, HBO started making lofty plans for other Westerosi spin-off shows based on George R.R. Martin’s books, including House of the Dragon.

However, of all the spin-offs in development, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight has been greenlit immediately to be made into a series.

In an interview with TVLine, Bloys shared an update on the developmental status of these shows.

There, he acknowledged that although many shows are in development, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the only greenlit one so far. Read his full comments below:

We always have Game of Thrones scripts in development. We greenlit Dunk and Egg in the spring. I wouldn’t say there is anything else in that world that is close to a green light or anything, but we are always working on different scripts and ideas.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, and the shooting will officially start in the spring of 2024.

However, the streaming giant hasn’t even acknowledged many spin-offs and sequels. The most important of them is the Jon Snow sequel series that will see the fan-favorite character return as the Night’s Watch with Kit Harrington playing the iconic character.

Other interesting spin-offs reportedly in development include 10,000 Ships, which will follow the adventures of Princess Nymeria, and The Sea Snake, highlighting Corlys Velaryon’s legendary voyages. Meanwhile, shows like Bloodmoon and Flea Bottom have effectively been canceled.

Therefore, we have only one spin-off that HBO has greenlighted at the time of writing.

It appears that HBO is doing this to avoid oversaturation and give space for the fans to have some breathing space.

Besides, House of the Dragon season 2 will be released early in 2024. Therefore, the die-hard GOT fans will always have some show or the other to look forward to!

Got the rare talent to binge an entire show in a single sitting just like that. Although a sucker for psychological thrillers, no bias for any genre when it comes to a good story. A living proof that Netflix and chill is not a myth!
