Percy Jackson and the Olympians Trailer Breakdown: A Breath of Fresh Air!

The wait is finally over for all the half-bloods like us, as Disney has released the full trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians!

December 20 will finally satiate the millions of demigods who have all grown up feeling envious of what Warner Bros. has done with Harry Potter.

This time, we are almost certain that Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be exponentially better than the 2010 trainwreck that made every Percy Jackson fan lose the will to live!

For one, this adaptation’s episodic nature ensures that the directors get enough breathing space to recreate the universe with all its intricate nuances and have enough time to develop the major characters.

Moreover, Rick Riordan has been an integral part of the creative team as opposed to its predecessor. This gives us extra insurance that Percy Jackson and the Olympians will finally give the fans what they deserve.

So, without further ado, let’s dissect the trailer for every little reference and easter egg! Watch the latest trailer below:

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS Official Trailer (2023)

Now, that’s what you call divine. The trailer presents a perfect concoction of suspense, intrigue, a dash of comedy, and adventure wrapped in a divine undertone.

We see demigods, monsters, Gods, half-bloods, and all our favorite characters in the two-and-a-half-minute ride.

“Percy, the stories I have told you about Greek gods and monsters — they are real,” Percy’s mother asserts in the trailer.

The scene begins with a divine statue of Perseus with the titular character’s mom explaining how his name came to be Percy at the Metropolitan Museum.

It’s essential to note that many of the scenes in the trailer don’t actually happen in the books. However, these are additions made by Rick Riordan himself, as he is the chief writer of the plot.

In a previous interview, Riordan asserted that he would chop and change certain parts and add to his own creation to polish the plot further. So, we will have new things to look forward to!

Thereafter, the scene quickly shifts to Yancy Academy. The scene highlights Percy’s ADHD and problems with the quintessential education system.

We are introduced to Grover Underwood, the satyr who is secretly his protector, and Mr. Brunner, who is actually the fan-favorite Chiron! In the trailer, we see Chiron handing Percy his iconic sword, Riptide.

The montage of scenes quickly takes a turn for the worst as we get glimpses of Percy’s world being flipped on its head.

Percy, the stories I have told you about Greek Gods and monsters…they are real.

You are a half-blood, and half-bloods are not safe in the world.

The montage of scenes involves iconic moments like Percy’s fight with Ares, the back of Medusa’s head, and Cerberus, the three-headed dog guarding Hades.

I was skeptical about Disney’s VFX because their artists are now spread so thin due to a barrage of shows in production. However, the recreation of these iconic characters is spot on and makes me even more excited about the final product!

This ginormous revelation is quickly followed by an overly anxious Grover trying to save Percy by hook or crook. Why? Because they are seconds away from being annihilated by the infamous Minotaur. Safety is truly a luxury when your name is Percy Jackson!

Finally, Percy is shown inside the beautiful Camp Half-Blood in the iconic orange uniform. The first shot of the camp shows Percy getting bullied by Clarisse, and the same scene gives us the first shot of Luke with the iconic scar across his face.

Camp Half-Blood is teased beautifully in the trailer. Besides many panoramic shots, we also see the place where the demigods sacrifice bits of their food to their divine parents.

Chiron finally informs Percy about Zeus’ lightning bolt and that he must go on a quest with Annabeth and Grover to fetch it. Failure to do so will result in a war between Zeus and Poseidon, and the consequences will be catastrophic.

Thereafter, we finally get a shot of the trio together for the first time. A confused but determined Percy Jackson with a severely anxious Grover and the ever-so-gracious Annabeth; the scene calls for applause for sure!

Furthermore, the trailer also features scenes from the famous Capture the Flag game, with Annabeth sporting her favorite Yankees’ invisibility cap and baiting Percy to win the competition.

The climax of the 2-minute teaser features the famous battle between Percy and Ares and extended shots of his fights with the Minatour and the nefarious Chimera.

Finally, we also see a lot of the Underworld and the undead as the trio sets foot in the land of Hades to look for the Lightning Bolt of Zeus.

The two-and-a-half-minute teaser excites me for the upcoming series for two primary reasons.

Firstly, Rick Riordan’s involvement in the development process assures me that the show will not make blasphemous errors like the previous movies.

Secondly, the VFX used in the trailer is of top-notch quality, especially in portraying the Underworld and the various monsters. This is truly remarkable work done by the creative team, raising our expectations even higher.

Got the rare talent to binge an entire show in a single sitting just like that. Although a sucker for psychological thrillers, no bias for any genre when it comes to a good story. A living proof that Netflix and chill is not a myth!
