Where are Poseidon’s Other Kids in Percy Jackson? Here’s What the Books Say

The first three episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians establish that Percy Jackson is special because he’s a forbidden child of the God of the Sea, Poseidon.

The story goes that several years ago, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades decided not to have children with mortals anymore as there were too many of them. However, Zeus couldn’t keep it in his pants and broke the pact. His brothers followed suit quite soon, and forbidden children were born.

Percy Jackson is one of them, although we have not heard anything about Poseidon’s other children so far in the series. Other than Percy, the other forbidden child we hear about is Thalia, who was transformed into a tree by her father, Zeus, to protect Camp Half-Blood.

But Percy is not the only child of Poseidon. We can say for sure that he has many other non-forbidden (and forbidden) children. The books also talks about some children of Poseidon other than Percy.

1. Where are Poseidon’s other children?

Poseidon’s other non-forbidden children are pretty old during the events of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. There is no mention of their whereabouts in the books or the series, as they play no role in the story. However, another forbidden child of Poseidon called Tyson is likely to be a part of season 2.

The Pact of the Big Three promising that they will not father any more mortal children dates back to the end of World War II. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades realized that their children were growing too powerful, so they would not have any more of them.

As per Greek mythology, there is another big reason behind the Pact of the Big Three. The Oracle of Delphi predicted that one of the children of the Big Three would either destroy or save Olympus. Scared by the prospect of Olympus being destroyed, the Big Three decided to not father children anymore.

The prophecy has not been mentioned in Percy Jackson and the Olympians yet, but it is likely to be mentioned soon. The books delve into the prophecy and mentions it several times.

Moreover, it is because of the Oracle’s prophecy that Percy is in danger. Percy is one of the first forbidden kids to be claimed by Poseidon. Naturally, Zeus assumes that he is the one who stole his lightning bolt as he is Poseidon’s son.

If the bolt is not found, war will break out between Zeus and Poseidon, leading to the destruction of Olympus. The gods are afraid of the Oracle’s prophecy coming true.

As of now, we can assume that the non-forbidden children who were already born by the time of the pact were old enough by the 1940s. All of Poseidon’s kids are supposed to be old in the timeline of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

However, the second book in the series, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters introduces another forbidden child of the Sea God and a half-brother of Percy.

2. Who is Poseidon’s other forbidden child except Percy?

Poseidon has another forbidden child called Tyson. Tyson is a cyclops, first mentioned in Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, the second book in the series.

Tyson has not been mentioned in the series yet but is likely to appear in season 2. He was born out of Poseidon’s relationship with a nymph. In the books, he is homeless at first but later moves into Poseidon’s cabin in Camp Half-Blood.

In the books, we come across several other forbidden children of the Big Three. However, we only know of two forbidden children fathered by Poseidon, Percy and Tyson.

3. Poseidon’s Children as per Greek Mythology Explained

Poseidon has a number of children in Greek mythology, some of whom are mentioned in the Percy Jackson series. However, all of them are either immortal or existed much before the events of the Percy Jackson series.

Some of Poseidon’s mortal children mentioned in Greek mythology are Theseus, Atlas, Neleus, and Agenor. None of these characters appear in Rick Riordan’s universe, so we can assume they’re dead or just not into demigod stuff now.

Poseidon also has many children with non-human creatures, such as giants, monsters, and nymphs, which is what inspires Tyson’s character.

One of the immortal kids of Poseidon, Triton, is mentioned in the Percy Jackson series. He belongs to the species of merpeople. Other immortal children fathered by Poseidon are Telchines, Aeolus, and Asopus. They do not appear in the Percy Jackson series.

Per some Greek myths, Athena is also the daughter of Poseidon, while some stories refer to her as Zeus’ daughter. In the Percy Jackson universe, Athena is not the daughter of Poseidon. The series has its own approach while dealing with these Greek myths.
