‘The Big Bang Theory’ Star Kunal Nayyar Addresses New Spinoff Reports

Playing the iconic Rajesh Koothrapalli in the nerd-centric sitcom, Nayyar’s character was one of the prime reasons for the show’s unprecedented success. Almost five years after the show’s finale, fans have become excited because of rumors surrounding the launch of a new spinoff from co-creator Chuck Lorre. 

In a recent interview with TVLine, Kunal Nayyar spills everything he knows about this rumored spinoff. Rather, the star claims that he doesn’t know anything besides the fact that it has been reported.

Lorre said in November that he was still brainstorming the idea for The Big Bang Theory spinoff without a concrete plot. However, the SAG-AFTRA and the WGA strikes might’ve caused a significant delay in the plans. 

While we assume that Lorre won’t talk about the plot before it gets greenlit, there’s a strong case for why Nayyar’s Raj is the best protagonist for the spinoff. 

All six main characters in The Big Bang Theory get a satisfactory ending by the show’s end. Leonard and Penny are happily married and expecting their first child, while Bernadette and Howard lead a happy life with two kids. Meanwhile Sheldon and Amy receive the Nobel Prize in Physics.

However, Raj is the only one who doesn’t get the ending he deserves. He breaks up his engagement just before the finale and is left with an unfulfilled personal arc by the show’s end. Therefore, he’s the most suited candidate to get his own spinoff show. 

Nayyar could be honest when he says he knows nothing about the next Big Bang Theory spinoff. The new show may have a different cast of characters since the sitcom wrapped up their stories. 

However, it could also be that he is just avoiding the topic since the project is still a secret, and he’s able to keep secrets, unlike Rajesh Koothrapalli!
