Counter-Strike Source 2 Version Confirmed, Beta Launching This Month

Valve leaker and content creator ‘Gabefollower’ had spotted two new executables included in the latest NVIDIA drivers– “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe.” These refer to Counter-Strike Global Offensive 2 and Counter-strike 2 respectively.

According to multiple sources, a new Counter-Strike version is indeed being developed using the Source 2 engine. Reputed journalist Richard Lewis has also revealed that a beta for the upcoming Counter-Strike will be happening very soon, possibly later this month.

Because of the Source 2 engine, the game’s optimization and graphical fidelity will be improved significantly. This is bad news for players with low-end setups, but Valve is known to design their games keeping everyday gamers in mind.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity sources with knowledge of the game’s development told us that indeed there was a new version of Counter-Strike on its way and that had been worked on for some time… The new version is almost certainly set to be released under the working title Counter-Strike 2 and the tentative release date for the beta is in this month of March with April 1st at the outside.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive runs on an older version of the Source engine. The game was developed for various platforms, and finally launched in 2012. It will be interesting to see a comeback for the iconic franchise.

It is unclear whether this new Counter-Strike is referred to as Counter-Strike 2. This could also be an update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive within Valve’s Source 2 engine. Valve has not officially addressed this discovery yet. So, it seems wise to wait for an official statement from the company.

About Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a 2012 multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment. It is the fourth game in the Counter-Strike series. It expands upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 19 years ago. Global Offensive was released for OS X, PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360 in August 2012, and for Linux in 2014. Valve still regularly updates the game, both with smaller balancing patches and larger content additions.
