Gotham Knights sees a performance bump and fewer bugs since the launch

A lot of games, released in between 2022 and 2023, have seen their release expectations being blown into dust as number of issues have been plaguing them for a while now.

Gotham Knights is one such title that had a number of issues, with the absence of a Performance Mode, limiting FPS to 30, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. The game also faced a lot of stuttering when on PC, given there’s much grappling and flying around the map.

Technically, the changes made pertain to the shaders. The game also sees a CPU optimization fix. The frame rate stays above a solid 70FPS now.

It was noted by wccftech author Alessio Palumbo, who tested the game thoroughly, that there was no improvement even when DLSS was set to performance mode and ray tracing was turned off.

The gameplay experience was not good, even on a powerful performance system bearing an RTX 3090 GPU and an intel Core i7-12700KF CPU.

New performance analysis based on FPS

The experience worsened when Ray Tracing was switched on, even with DLSS at ultra. The gaming community was deeply disappointed with such a well-designed game facing technical difficulties.

The game consequently received many patches to fix the shader compilation stuttering issue and improve the overall optimization.

The most recent of the many patches that Gotham Knights received was on February 15th. While the patch didn’t see many problems on the PC, it was troublesome on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, where FPS would drop below 30FPS.

The developers, Digital Foundry, received much praise for fixing the PC version of the game and also consequently making sure that the console version of the game was running locked in at 30FPS.

This will please the gaming community as Digital Foundry sets an example by taking into account the community’s plight and making sure that other companies follow suit and players aren’t stuck with buggy games.
