According to Rumors Intel’s “Raptor Lake-Refresh” might hit the shelves in August

Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh is set to refresh Intel’s offering of desktop CPUs. They were seen in a new leak, with rumors that they’re set to launch in Q3 of 2023.

In reply to @harukaze5719 on Twitter, leaker and tipster @wxnod replied that RPL-R(Raptor Lake Refresh) is set to hit the shelves with a bang around August 2023, right at the rumored Q3 launch date. This is Intel’s latest offering since a year of 13th Gen K-series launch.

As per the roadmap released by Intel for the Desktop and Workstation series of CPUs, it has been noted that the Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs will be compatible with the existing LGA 1700/1800 motherboards, the same used by the 12th Gen Alder Lake chips.

It continues to rely on the ‘Intel 7’ process node. The significant changes are in terms of faster clocks and little optimizations. Some rumors even claim improved multi-threading performance and better utilization of the larger caches.

A significant rumor was also doing rounds in the enthusiast circles. The DLVR – Digital Voltage Regulator is set to be contained in the Raptor Lake Refresh. Although they were expected for the non-refresh lineup, too, it remains to be seen until official confirmation.

The upcoming SKUs contain TDPs ranging from consumer-level 35W to entry-workstation levels of 125W. As per performance rumors, it is believed that the Raptor Lake refresh is set to be Emerald Rapids-SP based on the Xeon Platform’s intermediate solution.

It is also strongly believed that the Raptor Lake is the last CPU variant by Intel based on the Intel 7 technology before shifting to a newer Intel 4 technology.

The Raptor Lakes’ trump card is Intel’s hybrid design of performance cores (P-cores) and Efficiency cores(E-cores). This leads to a 41% better multi-threading performance over the 13th gen.

For upgraders and builders, this is good news as there are more cores which translates to more performance and a better performance-to-power ratio. Also, the 13th to 14th gen isn’t the same as the 11th to 12th gen, so there’s no need to upgrade existing hardware, which is a bonus.
