Nvidia grabs top spot in GPU segment in Steam’s Hardware Survey

Nvidia retained the top spot in the PC GPU segment with AMD in Q4 of 2022. By many other metrics, Nvidia is leading the GPU race as of now.

This becomes even more evident in Steam’s Hardware survey, where Nvidia commands 82.63% of the share. The GeForce RTX 3060 has the highest percentage of users at 10.44%, a growth of 6.23%.

Overall Statistics across different categories for the month of March, 2023

From amongst almost 135 million users, this translates to around 26-27 million concurrent users at peak. As per the reports shared, most of the GPUs are seen to be DX12 compliant – about 94.47%.

However, their competitor, AMD, has a measly 10.82% share in the GPU segment, coming in second place. In the processor segment, AMD’s 25.54% share is just about a third of Intel’s 74.46% share.

Thus, Nvidia’s RTX 3060 has replaced the GTX 1650 as the most popular GPU on the platform. This translates to a 2.08% decrease in the usage of the older 1650 GPU.

Table for the Nvidia GPUs with the RTX 3060 and the GTX 1650

This is interesting because the RTX 3060 has an official MSRP of $329. This is about $180 more than the GTX 1650, priced at $149.

This shows gamers and enthusiasts will shell out some extra bucks for optimal high-end performance. This makes sense, given that many RTX 3060s were dumped into the market following the crypto crash.

The higher performance RTX 3070 and 3080 are also in the top 10 list. None of AMD’s GPUs show up. However, just like the RTX 4090, it will take time for the new AMD GPUs to weave their way into the top spots, given their recent release.

Statistics for the CPUs based on core count

The 6-core CPUs are also on the rise with a big share of 12.28%, along with the 10-core and 12-core. However, there has been barely any movement for the eight cores, which have dipped overall by 1.45%.

This information shows which direction the market is tilting towards and what are the smart purchasing choices. The bottom line is, as always, Nvidia and Intel come out on top.
