The freshly launched A620 motherboards by AMD feature the latest AM5 technology. It is stated that the A620 lineup can achieve optimal memory performance of DDR5 EXPO/XMP overclocking up to DDR5-6400.
This extracts the best value from the reasonably priced motherboard for budget setups. Thus, the newer Ryzen 7000 processors can be set up for under $500.
Since AMD did not share any review pieces or product descriptions with testers, the latest full press deck shared by AMD becomes essential as it shares some not-so-obvious details.
As per the press release, AMD says that 65W TDP CPUs are set to be supported by default by A620 motherboards. However, they say that models with higher TDP might not be supported. And even if they are, multithreading performance will take a hit, with “minimal impact on game performance.”
It is to be noted that some limited A620 motherboards support 88W by default. Despite this, there have been advertisements by AMD for an A620 build with a Ryzen 7 7800X3Da CPU coming out this week with a TDP of 120W.
This could be made possible with one of the higher-end A620 motherboards allowing gamers and enthusiasts to increase power limits.
The A620 motherboards do not support the PCIe Gen5 interface, which starkly contrasts the B650 series. It also features lesser PCIe lanes, maxing out at 36.
The absence of the overclocking feature is the main drawback that concerns gamers. This also means that the A620 VRM sections become redundant.
The absence of the VRM sections also significantly reduces the board’s price. The board does support memory overclocking with support for the DDR5 standard.
Models for the A620 from ASRock and MSI hit the sub $100 range. This motherboard is set to be the poster boy of budget builds. The Ryzen 5 7600 is the likely target CPU for the board, with older models not supporting AM5 architecture.
Buyers must keep the A620’s max TDP in mind while purchasing to ensure they do not buy an ill-fitted motherboard. To prevent mishaps, most manufacturers mention the TDP support limit for the motherboard in the product description.
It has to be kept in mind that with the high cost of the DDR5 memory and the pricing of the new Ryzen 7000 processors based on the AM5 technology, uptake of AMD’s new boards has been and will be sluggish for the foreseeable future.
