It’s not very often that a game leaving a particular website is a good sign. However, it is said that there may be a silver lining to “Quantum Break” leaving the Xbox Game Pass in April.
Recently, in an interview with German Website Xbox Dynasty, Microsoft revealed that they are removing Quantum Break from the Xbox Game Pass sometime in April.
This was odd, given that Microsoft Studios was the game’s publisher. Many people thought of it to be an April Fool’s Joke.
However, such was not the case. In the interview, it was also mentioned that the removal of the game is mainly due to licensing reasons over anything else.
They reassured the fans of the game that behind the scenes, they’re working hard to bring back the sci-fi time-controlling game back to the Xbox Game Pass.
It is mentioned that the licensing issues are mainly due to some expired licenses, and negotiations to renew them are already underway.
One possible explanation makes us take a step back into 2016. This was when composer Petri Alanko contributed to Alan Wake. The game was subsequently removed from physical and digital storefronts in 2017 due to licensing issues over the music.
The fun fact here is that Petri Alanko also contributed to Quantum Break. This has been cited as one possible reason. While all of this remains a rumor, official statements are awaited.
Despite the game being critically acclaimed, players’ reception could have been better. Dedicated fan base that saw the game as a thematic precursor to Remedy’s Control, were overjoyed when the title was released three years later.
While it’s unknown if a sequel for Quantum Break is underway, actor Shawn Ashmore playing protagonist Jake Joyce has expressed desire to reprise the role.
Other titles set to leave the Xbox Game Pass soon include The Riftbreaker, Moonglow Bay, Rainbow Six Extraction, The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos, Life is Strange: True Colors and The Long Dark.
It remains to be seen if the developers will give Quantum Break the sequel it deserves, along with Alan Wake and Control which are already in motion. At any rate, the fanbase would love to see the licensing issues to be resolved and the game back to Xbox Game Pass.
