Diablo IV game director promises new updates every three months

Diablo 4 was released on early access from March 17th to March 20th, and the open beta was released from March 24th to March 27th. This period of testing and trial set quite some expectations from the developers, Blizzard.

As per game director Joe Piepiora, the upcoming RPG will have a solid post-launch content roadmap with promises for “meaty” story content for three months. A seasonal pass will accompany this. The quarterly updates bring new features and mechanics while improving the world within the game.

It has to be kept in mind that the developers committed to something similar for the previous title, Diablo 3, which received additional seasonal content for a while after coming out.

The new title will take it a step further and better it. The game director Piepiora did not clarify if each content release will be full-fledged expansion packs.

However, it was confirmed that they would bring big changes, if not complete overhauls, improvements in in-game mechanics, and a bunch of assorted goodies.

Diablo 4 Review: Classes (Beta Gameplay)

A similar content roadmap was observed for Destiny 2 by developer Bungie. This might force players to focus on legacy content in Diablo IV, similar to what they did for Destiny 2 post-Lightfall release. This is due to the overwhelming amount of content being released regularly.

There were some concerns by players voiced on Reddit. They worried they might have to break the bank for the ongoing content. However, developers assured that seasons in Diablo IV would be free and premium battle passes would be merely cosmetic.

The fine launch details are yet to be zeroed in on by the developers. Players hope that constant changes and potential power creep won’t vandalize the game, a common by-product of constant updates.

The game is set to come out on June 6th, 2023. The developers have confirmed that the game’s release won’t coincide with the first batch of seasonal content.

It is set for release at a later date. Certainly, as the release date draws closer, we might see more content and information on character and seasonal progression from the much-anticipated game.
