Benchmarks leaked for Intel’s 14th Gen Meteor Lake engineering sample

Yesterday, a variant of Intel’s 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPU was spotted on the Ashes of Singularity Benchmark database. The CPU codenamed Core Ultra 5 1003H, has now been confirmed.

Intel’s Director of Global Communications, Bernard Fernandes, has confirmed that the CPUs bearing the “Core I” branding will be renamed to the new Core Ultra Branding. He mentioned that they had attained an inflection point in their client roadmap in preparation for the launch of the Meteor Lake processors.

If the rebranding and renaming are going through, Intel will start from scratch. This happens to make things more confusing for the consumers.

The sample is a mobile GPU with a GPU clock of 2.1GHz, a TDP of 45W, and 128 compute execution units. The CPU has 18 threads which is an uncommon configuration for an Intel CPU.

This means there are 6 Efficient cores and 6 Performance Cores or the inclusion of Meteor Lake’s SoC tile with two additional Efficient Cores.

The specifications to the new engineering samples

This is because the 14th Gen Meteor Lake processor’s numbering starts with ten instead of 14, as was the trend. This would imply that the Meteor Lake CPUs are part of the 10th Gen series.

This would be similar to competitor AMD’s approach to having a unified nomenclature despite being more confusing for the consumers. The “Ultra” is assumed to differentiate between the various SKUs and segments.

Some SKUs might not even feature this nomenclature, it’s speculated. It is also possible that this is an engineering sample, not likely ready for consumer use.

This is because earlier, with the LGA1700 CPUs, codenamed Alder Lake, Intel used Core 1800 as an engineering sample name. The new naming scheme will be attractive for Generations 14th and later—the leaked Core Ultra 5 1003H features 18 cores and 18 threads.

However, helpful information regarding the core speeds or cache sizes must be included, given the nature of the Ashes of Singularity benchmarks.

The Meteor Lake also features a new tile architecture featuring four primary tiles Graphics, SoC, IO, and the Compute Tile. The CPU tile uses the hybrid Redwood Core P-Cores and the Crestmont E-Cores, delivering high performance at low powers.

Earlier Intel had also mentioned its recent earnings and reported that they are looking to ramp up its production of Meteor Lake CPUs for launch in 2H of 2023.
