AMD resumes production of the low-end Ryzen 3000G series APUs in China

AMD has been in the news for its recent announcements in the CPU sector, especially the Phoenix 7000 series CPUs and their RX series GPUs, competing with Nvidia’s RTX series GPUs.

As per the latest reports from the Chinese Board Channel Forums, AMD is resuming the production of its old Ryzen 3000G APUs. This move is in favor of the low-end PC market. These APUs will be compatible with the AM4 motherboard and set to be bundled together.

The A320 and the B450, which are found in abundance in the retail segment, are one of the primary reasons why they will be combined with the upcoming low-end APUs.

AMD’s recent decision to resume production is well aligned with the recent boom in demand for low-end CPUs in China. To further boost it, AMD wants to deliver more entry-level APUs, such as the Ryzen 3000G.

The report also states that there will be as many as 30000 Ryzen 3000G chips exclusively made for the Chinese market. The offerings include the Ryzen 5 3400G, Ryzen 3 3200G, and the Athlon 3000 series.

Specifications to the Athlon 3000

These APUs, all well below the USD 100 mark, will be lucrative for entry-level desktop builds despite their outdated architecture. The architecture codenamed Picasso is used for the AMD Ryzen and Athlon 3000G.

Picasso uses the 12nm process node and is powered by the Zen+ CPU and Vega GPU architecture. The iGPU features the 1st generation of the lower end iGPU that has been optimized since the Ryzen 2000G APUs.

The price point has also been released. The Ryzen 5 3400G retails for USD 127, and Ryzen 3 3200G comes in at USD 99. This is not a reasonable price considering that the Ryzen 5 5600G is now available at USD 140.

The 3000G series offers up to 4.2GHz boost clock and up to Radeon RX Vega 11 graphics. They are in competition with Intel 9th Gen core CPUs with 4 and 6 cores.

These APUs, coupled with the Wraith Stealth/Spire cooling solution, can be used for light office work and casual home PC uses. Coupled with a discrete GPU, it could have decent performance barring some bottlenecks due to the old architecture.
