Overwatch 2’s Limited time “Galactic Rescue” out now, runs until 22nd May

Overwatch 2’s Season 4 has been out for about a month, since its launch on April 11th, 2023. The developers, Blizzard, brought a bunch of changes to game.

The most notable addition was that of Lifeweaver, a new support class hero. He also caused a notable stir in the community because of his “overpowering” ability to disrupt allies in the worst way possible. It also saw a new community-made map of Talantis.

The latest event, “Starwatch: Galactic Rescue”, runs from May 9th to 22nd May. This is Overwatch 2’s first PVP/PVE hybrid event wherein players will choose the Watchers, led by Bonebreaker Doomfist, or Galactic Emperor Sigma leading Infinite Empire. They’ll battle it in a four-point Assault match on the Infinite Galactrius.

The Infinite Galactrius is a ship transformed from the Lunar Colony map. The Starwatch event has challenges that can unlock all-new cosmic cosmetics for free.

One of the notable skins that is unlocked is the Wrecking Ball’s new Asteroid epic skin in addition to the 50000 XP. This can be achieved by completing Overwatch 2’s Premium Battle pass, unlocking Sigma’s new epic skin.

Another limited time perk that will be included are the bundles of Watchers and Infinite Empire. The new Overwatch 2 event also released a free comic.

The new Galactic Emperor Sigma cosmetic available in the limited time event

Named “Starwatch: An Echo of Hope”, it tells the story of the Watchers’ escape from the Infinite Empire. The winning party of Starwatch: Galactic Rescue will be determining the fate of the galaxy.

This will be mentioned in the upcoming comic, that remains unannounced as of now but is expected to release when the event ends on May 22nd.

Overwatch 2’s Starwatch: Galactic Rescue adopts a Star-Wars-esque approach. The event brings a new limited mode to gradually draw attention away from the problems that Overwatch 2 has been facing for a while now.

It also offers some engaging lore and is more than a mere filler or distraction scheme. The bonus of free cosmetics in the Starwatch event also ensures that players don’t get too caught up in the problematic mechanics of the game.

About Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, the game is intended to have a shared environment for player-versus-player (PvP) modes with the first game while introducing persistent cooperative modes. A major change in PvP was to reduce team sizes from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked.

Overwatch 2 is set to launch as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022. It will feature full cross-platform play.
